...shape wear, that will actually stay put?

...I know everyone raves about spanx but I have NEVER had any luck with ANY of their products. I wore some today to my fitting, and they kept rolling down, making make back fat goosh out. I looked horrifying....

....and when I got home dejected and had to use the bathroom SO bad, the whole "gusset" part (for when nature calls", did not work out at all - accident city. Very embarassing, glad fiance wasn't home.....

SO won't be wearing that ridiculous thing under my dress. So anyone know of ANY type of shapewear that can be worn with a strapless dress, that will minimize back "bulge", and stays put?  I have a serious problem. Wedding is in two weeks. SIgh. Hate feeling this way, ugly and mis-shapen and on Christmas Eve of all days.....

Re: ...shape wear, that will actually stay put?

  • Have you tried a longline bra or corset?  I hear good things about those, if they fit properly.  What feature are you targeting for shaping?

  • ...the back mostly, and waist....longline bras don't come up high enough. My strapless dress comes up high enough in the back to cover my back fat, but the bulges show through the dress.....
  • My friend swears by corsets for us curvy girls, on the grounds that they can create smooth outlines, and shift our bulges into aesthetically pleasing locations.  She swears the effects are actually more impressive than with skinny girls, because they don't have much material to shape.  Haven't bought one myself to try yet, but I plan to.

  • As for corsets, it depends on the quality. I've tried corsets that use plastic boning and they do not hold up well for me during extended wear time. On the other hand, I have a handmade steel-boned corset that I wear for Ren Fests and I love it. If laced properly, it will shift everything around wonderfully and helps support you at the same time. With the firm steel boning it actually helps with posture (and back pain, from what I've heard).

I also haven't had much luck with shapewear either - it never stays where I want it to. I've never had that problem with a good corset.

  • I would visit Davids Bridal and request trying all the corsets they have available in your size. Lots of them are crap but then I found one that held everythibg firmly in place and made me look as awesome as possible since lets face it nothing can eliminate all fat.
  • ....I REALIZE that nothing short of liposuction will remove my "back fat" at this point, I just wanted to be smoothed out, and be able to go to the bathroom somewhat comfortably because I have bladder issues.

It's lower back fat I'm looking to smooth, so perhaps a corset. Don't think I can get a steel boned one custom made in time. Though I got my dress at David's, unfortunately I find most of their other products severely lacking. The slip they gave me for my size, barely fits, and the zipper is for crap.

.....so we're going to a local shop "everyone" swears by....we shall see.

It is what it is at this point, and I'm sure it'll all work out.
  • I used a longline/corset for my wedding back in June and it worked wonderfully. I also had the same problem with the spanks.
  • ....went to Macys today with my matron of honor. Having a friend there helped out, found a nice bustier type shapewear thing. It really smoothed the old back fat out.

    Helps to have someone there!

Thanks for all the advice! 9 days to go! Smile
  • I highly suggest you go to an actual lingerie shop. Just a good old fashioned brassiere store. I bought a SPANX knockoff from one and I've had it 4 years and many BM dresses. I'll get a new one for my own wedding, though.

Here's what I've found gets it to stay put all night:
    - softer, more flexible material
    - shape: shorts all the up to the bra-line
    - tuck the top torso seam under the bra strap
    - admit that you may need a larger size than you'd like...if it does the job, who cares the size!

Good luck ladies. We're all going to look great! And remember, he/she loves YOU and asked you, as you are, to marry them.
