New Mass changes were distributed today

Everyone get them?

It's not that much difference that I can see.

They are not in effect yet, they just handed out the changes with the regular program.

They go into effect the end of the month.

I saw the pamphlets today, and the monsignor discussed the changes a bit before Mass started.  The changes aren't huge, but I'm so used to the old words, I've had them memorized for decades.  :\

The texts begins in Advent, however bishops can allow the music acclamations to begin earlier (started in September)

Our church has changed the music and I feel like it is totally different.

We started learning the new music in the beginning of October.  Our priest has been giving homolies over the changes for three weeks now.  I think next week is the last one.  When he started the homolies he handed out the pew cards with the new words.

We've been changing the music settings, one part at a time, for about the last month.  I don't care for them - but I think its more that I don't care for the music setting my church has chosen to go with, than the words themselves.

Only the Gloria, Holy, and Mystery of Faith had changes. There is even an option in the mystery of faith that is the same as before. The Holy had basically one word change, and the Gloria is significantly different. So much so that it should not be revised with the same music setting (trying to cram many words in to a small space of music). Writing music to match the gloria is a huge challenge... the points of accent in the words make it very difficult to make anything metrical. I've been scouring mass parts for more than a year and so far only found one published that I think it semi-catchy, and its not even a mainstream publisher. I know of a couple more locally written ones that are pretty decent that I'll be using next year.

We didn't get anything. I have a Catholic app on my phone that has all the changes. H keeps talking about some website we need to go to look at them.

Our bishop mandated an 8-week catechesis of the new translation, and this was week 6 or 7. Our parish has really nice cards with all the changes on them. I finally feel like I'm getting the new Gloria, but agree with Agape that the attempts to make it fit old settings sound awful. It's a song of praise and it should sound happier or something!

We've also (illicitly?) been using the new Nicene Creed the last couple of weeks and I feel like we're getting that, too.

It will just be weird the first Sunday of Advent when half the congregation says, "And also with you" and half says, "And with your spirit" right off the bat.

Agapecarrie - We are using the Mass of Wisdom, and I really like it.  Have you looked at it?

Had to play the holy and mystery of faith when I subbed at another church, it was ok.

I skimmed the beginning of the gloria a long time ago, don't remember it.

Agape - Have you looked at Mass of St. Paul the Apostle?  That's what the Cleveland Diocese picked for everyone to learn, and it's kind of catchy - a good bit of syncopation, and I think it sounds decent for both traditional and contemporary masses.

We received the cards in our parish about a month or so ago.  Learning the new Nicene Creed is going to be one of the harder things for me.  Almost everything else seems to flow fairly easily for me.

One of the harder things lately has been using the cards that have been distributed while Chiquita wants to eat it.
