Trying to remain calm...

My cousin's bridesmaid dress does NOT zip up.

We went to the store together, and she fit in the size she tried on, and the store agreed this was the size she should order. Fast forward to getting the "actual" dress, and it's WAY too tight. Like 3" won't zip. Of course, she decided then that she'll just go on a diet... I said don't pressure yourself - let's call the dress shop and/or take your dress to a tailor right now who can take some of the length off the bottom (it's WAY long - thank god!) and maybe add to the side or zipper.

She didn't do anything (but diet and exercise a lot) for the past 6 weeks, and now, at 18 days out the dress still doesn't zip and we're scrambling to find a tailor in her (small) town, but no one will do it! GAHHHHHHH!!!!!!! Luckily, she's about an hour away from me, in Chicago, so worst case, she can come down this week, where there are many tailors to pick from.

Wish us luck!

Re: Trying to remain calm...

  • Obviously this ship has sailed, but the store really should have taken her measurements when the dress was ordered.  Sample dresses are tried on by women of all different sizes and stretch out over time.  Unless you're buying that dress off the rack, you usually have to go up a size or two.  (just for future reference, not trying to be a smartass.)

There is plenty of time for her dress to get altered - most places take 2 weeks max.  It will get fixed, just try to relax.

  • Oh, trust me, I know all about getting measurements and dresses stretching. And they DID take her measurements and we compared it with the size chart. That's part of why I'm so flustered. (The other part is that she waited so long to DO anything about it, which is a whole different issue.)

Luckily, I just got a text from my cousin that just said "no more dress worries." She took the day off work to get this figured out...
  • glad it's fixed! i was shooting a wedding where a BM dress zipper broke as the girl was putting it on.  with the help of 3 other girls the zipper was swen back on and the poor BM ws actually sewn into her dress!  thankfully it didn't come unstitched!
  • I'm glad that it got fixed!
  • Same happened to one of my BM's!!! Who made your BM dresses? Mine, the sample 10 fit her perfectly, her measurements in bust and waist were a perfect 10...her hips were a perfect 12, but she decided to go with the 10. The hips fit just fine when it came in, it was the top!! Luckily her mom works for a suit store that has a seamstress and she added elastic under the arms.
