Farmington Valley/Connecticut Venue Search - Lots of Light!

Hi All,

We're recently engaged and starting to thinking about venues for a late summer 2013 wedding. So far we're having a bit of a hard time coming up with places. We need a place that is up to $110 a head on a Saturday night (including tip/tax) and fits at least 200, but preferably up to 230. Obviously we'd rather be under $110 a head (with tax and tip) but are having a really hard time finding a place! We want something that isn't your typical ballroom - we both are a bit more nature minded so we'd like something with lots of windows and lights in a nice setting. So far we've looked at the Pond House (too small), Riverview (too $$), the Simsbury Inn (pretty dark), and we're looking at Tunxis Pavillion in Farmington this upcoming weekend. We're also thinking about looking at La Cupola Ristorante & Inn in Litchfield and Mystic Seaport.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

  • If you go to the CT Knottie website (Clicky) there are a list of venues that other girls on the board have gotten married at under Vendors.  At least you can have a large list of websites you can go to for more information.
  • We are getting married at The Farmington Gardens in Farmnington.  They are new (just open in Sept.) And it is AMAZING.  I have pictures in my blog (the link is in my siggy).

We are paying about 85 a head (I cut out a few things) but it started at 95.  I LOVE IT!!!!!
  • I was going to mention Farmington Gardens as well - if you guys can, hold off on booking a date because we were able to get Riverview for much cheaper than you were probably quoted. Of course this is risky, but just something to keep in mind.

Definitely check out Farmington Garden, heard it is beautiful!
  • Mystic Seaport is beautiful- you might also want to look at Mystic Yachting Center- their pictures online look so beautiful, though I am unsure of the number of people. Ocean Blue Catering is their caterer- and they are def within your budget (I am using them and have a much lower budget!).
  • FI and I love spendingb time outside together, so we were looking for something similar to you guys, I think.  Check out Tower Ridge country club, Indian Hill Country Club and Hop Meadow Country Club.  We found that country clubs were our cheapest non-ballroom venues that could hold 200 and were relatively pretty.  We're going will Hop Meadow, but all three have pretty good light/views, can hold 200+ and were around $100 inclusive (with a little tweaking at Hop Meadow).

  • Here is another voice for Farmington Gardens! I am getting married there this coming July! The place is beautiful and the food was wonderful at our tasting!

  • My fiance and I went to Farmington Gardens yesterday and I think we're going to use the venue for our wedding! Phil was SO easy to work with and actually brought the wedding package into our budget. Thanks for the great suggestion!

My question for Farmington Gardens brides is how are you going to decorate the room? My one "con" with the room is that it is just so BLANK which is great that I put my pinterest ideas/crafty friends to good use, but I'm worried about exactly how to do that on a budget. Any ideas?
  • Thanks everyone! I think we're leaning towards Farmington Gardens. I am a bit nervous about it being so new, and I'm wondering how to decorate the reception hall because the room is so "blank." What are other Farmington Gardens brides thinking of doing for decorations?

(I thought I had posted something to this effect yesterday but can't seem to find it - sorry for any repeats!)
