...to get used to your new last name, if you changed it?

I keep calling myself by my old last name at work by accident (as in "This is Brie OldLastName calling from XXX"), and my secretary keeps shrieking in the correct one every time I do it. It feels weird.

It took me almost 3 months to stop thinking about it when I said it, or wrote it. Now it feels weird saying my maiden name sometimes, or seeing it still written on things.

I'm still in the awkward phase too! Last night we ordered takeout and they asked for my name and I said Ashley OldLastName.... pause.... NewLastName. I was wondering how long it's going to take to feel "normal" as well!

A couple weeks, but for the most part is was pretty easy. My first name and last name kinda flow together better than my maiden name did, though.

My dad still addresses my cards about 50 percent of the time to my maiden name, though. I think he just forgets.

It was really natural for me to switch to my married name, even signing it just seems natural. I'm not really sure if that was immediate or not. I mean 30something years with one name is a long time! It takes some getting used to!

I'm going from one good old English name to another, and this is the third time I'm changing my name. I wonder if it will feel weird? The first time it took a while, the second time, when I changed back to my maiden name, it wasn't weird and didn't take me long at all.

It took me a while, but I do not use my last name very often. My job is also such that only my first name is used. So I really do not hear my new last name very often.

After 19 months I still have not perfected a decent signature. I'm always changing it. If the bank actually compared my signature to the signature card all my transactions would be questioned.

It wasn't super bad for me; but I still have credit cards in my maiden name so I have to sign that sometimes.

I may or may not have misspelled my married name before.

I hate FI's last name. I asked him to change his last name to mine, he wasn't game, in fact, I think it pissed him off. Oops. I'm never going to get used to it. When I hear "Mrs. So and So" I'm gonna look over my shoulder for his mom. Sigh.

I'm passed the six month mark and I am starting to feel like it's slightly less weird now, but I'm still not entirely used to it. Side note: I went from famous name to famous name. My maiden name has a song about it and my married name is associated with a very specific bit of literature.

All stores in St Thomas check ID when using a credit card. My debit card still has my maiden name (even though I made a request numerous times to change) and my ID has my married name. Not one person questions the names do not match. So much for 'checking' ID. I even sign the receipt with my new last name, still no one questions it.

Not that long actually. I had mixed feelings about changing mine since my husband is Vietnamese and has a very common Vietnamese last name, and I'm white and had a Scottish maiden name. I think it's actually harder for everyone else to get used to my name than me, however. I get weird looks from people at the doctor's office or wherever when they call my last name and see a white girl stand up.

To make the transition easier for myself and others, I changed my signature in my work email to First (Maiden) NewName. Then after about 2 months I switched my signature to First NewName and it seemed to work well in getting me adjusted.

I'm not married yet (58 more days!!), but fiance and I have a joint account for wedding expenses that only has one debit card. His name is on it, and although I have access to the account, I've run into issues a few times when signing my name while using the card with his name on it. I started signing my new last name whenever I used that card, to avoid the issues, so it's already feeling natural!

When my students call me something new next year, though, I'm sure it will be weird!

I'm still at an awkward stage, almost 8 months later. I don't have anything changed over except at work, so at work I'm Kelly Newlastname and everywhere else I'm still Kelly Maidenname.

I get very confused.

I haven't changed mine yet either as I won't be married until July, but I was thinking about the same thing. I have actually tried the new signature and it doesn't flow at all and its difficult to sign. I have a feeling that my signature will be turning into a scribble. Either way I can't wait to change my name.

I am not married yet, but try to start practicing it whenever I can. I also try to use it for stuff that isn't legal, like FI and I bought our wedding bands last week and I put the order under my first name and new/married last name...lol. Maybe it will help, maybe it won't. But I am sure I will still be like you girls for at least a little while after the big day and all the paperwork changes.

It took me a few months. When signing my name at first, I was tempted to sign my maiden name but I got used to the new name eventually. I also kept my maiden name as a 2nd middle name, so that helped.
