frustrated vent re: makeup artists

I'n feeling super frustrated.  There were 3 makeup artsists I really liked for my wedding.  They all require 3-4 people to do makeup in order to come to you.  I have 4 bridesmaids but only one wants to have her makeup done.  My mom passed away so she's not an option either.  The one makeup artist I liked best had the option of coming to the salon she works at if you dont meet the three person minimum, but it is closed on Sundays (which our wedding is).  I am feeling so, so frustrated.

Any recommendations for a makeup artist who either doesn't have this minimum or I can do to?  I'll be in the north east philly area.  Thanks in advance.

I'm also frustrateed with makeup artists in terms of price/what they expect you to buy.  You can try Macys in Montgomerville (which according to Willow Grove and Nashaminy is the only one that has artists that will go out to do your makeup).  They did tell me that you have to buy a lot of stuff, so I'm not clear whether you have to buy everything or just a few items, but may be worth trying.  I'm still trying to figure this out myself.  If you are getting married on a Sunday afternoon, they'll do it in store, but if not then I see they do need to go to you.

    Good luck!

I know,  most require a minimum, i cant think of any off the top of my head :(

I know this is probably very bridezilla-y of me, but I'm kind of annoyed that only one of my bridesmaids wants to get her makeup done since its causing me such trouble.  I know that is not very rational of me, lol.

Definitely agree with Boston, as far as in store Macy's in Montgomeryville. I know the Clinique ladies there are very talented and may come out for a small fee, or again you can have them do it at the counter (technically for free), but it is always nice to buy some of the make-up you'll be re-applying (lip liner, lipstick/gloss, maybe a setting powder) - since these ladies work off commission.

    Good luck in finding one!

ooo I also thought of Sephora - there should be one in the city - you can go directly to it ($50 purchase = free special occassion make-up), or speak to an artist and see if they'll come to you.

I don't know who you checked with, but I used Kelly Quinlin from Face the Occasion, and she came out for just me. Plus she's so sweet and just a calming presence!

And they're the five best friends that anyone could have, the five best friends that anyone could have! Photobucket

I did try little touches, booked (though her calendar online said she wasn't and she took a reallt long time to get back to me)

Thanks for the recommendation I'll look into Face the Occasion.

Also, Sephora sounds like a great option, I'll definitely look into that as well.

This is not bridezilla of you. This is your wedding day and you are spending a lot to invite them and get pictures done, which they can benefit from themselves if they choose. It's like a free sitting for them with a pro. They should want to get their makeup done to look good for you. And how expensive is it per girl? $50? Really, they can't swing $50? Cheapskates.

Are sure these are friends of yours? Smile

I know this isn't the ideal solution, but why not just pay for another one of your bridesmaids (your MOH, perhaps) to get her makeup done? That would make 3 of you and you would be able to have someone come to you.

Can you maybe pay for them to get done?

What about hair, whats going on with that?
  • edited December 2011
My MOH is the one already doing.  I can't afford to pay for them all, and I don't feel like it would be nice to pay for one and not the others.

I have no idea what is going to go on with hair - I think I may just use my regular hair person who already said she would come to do it, though not very cheaply.  Any other recommendations for hair would be great as well.

I'm gonna agree with B2B. Cut corners somewhere and pay for them if they don't want to. Most women don't know how to apply makeup properly and you don't want them looking like hookers in your wedding photos.

We are already paying for the entire wedding ourselves and we're already cutting corners to keep costs down as much as possible. I really would prefer to not spend any more money but I guess that is an option.

Bella angel came and did my sister's for her wedding and mine, only two.

Dylan michael cosmetics when I booked her, charged more for under 3, but still came to you, you may want to check to see if she still does this.

Could you pay for their makeup and consider that their bridesmaid gift?
  • edited December 2011
CMP, this was going to be my suggestion.  If you really want the makeup there and want your girls to get their makeup done/get ready with you because you feel it will be a bonding/pampering experience, I would book someone and then pay for your bridesmaids as part or all of their gift from you for being in the wedding.

Sometimes an artist will have other people she works with who will come without the minimum. I'm using Daneene Jensen and though she requires a minimum, she has other people who she'll send out without the minimum. Good luck!

It is absolutely ridiculous what most of these places are charging.  I am frustrated too!  Little Touches cancelled on me and I can't find anyone else that I like so far.

Do you have any friends/family that is coming to the wedding and might want to get their makeup done?  Like close girlfriend or an aunt?
