Need A Venue in Downtown or Close to Downtown that won't break my budget

Hey Ladies, I just got engaged about a month ago and I have been planning ever since. I have been looking for Venues that would give me the look I want but will also accomodate my party but not break my bank. I found one ( it will remain nameless) Downtown I was oo excited that I booked the church Downtown. Well one week later the lady flaked and started to change her price so I decided not to do buisiness there for my personal sanity. My wedding is 7-16-2011 and I need a Venue that can hold at least 200-250 people that is downtown or close to downtown but won't break my bank. Needless to say the Church's deposit is non-refundable and at this point I'm just tired. I have debated changing the date to a Friday, just having the ceremont and skipping the reception or jost taking the money and putting a down payment on a house. Why is planning so hard? If you know of any places that are reasonable please let me know.

Check out Americas Reception Hall. Its nice and affordable. It was one of my final 2 choices but I chose the other venue. I highly recommend it and its right outside of downtown. They have some pricing on there but I have the price lists for 250 ppl from when I was considering it. HTH

Make sure to post your discontent review on projectwedding.com and weddingbee.com of the venue you originally were thinking about.

Something that may be helpful to you and I got the idea from a coworker planning her wedding is to just give a venue your budget and the amount of people you expect to attend.  Ask if they can accomodate your budget or not and what they can offer?  There may be some places that you thought were completely out of your budget but they may have some items not in thier packages that they can subsitute for a lower cost.  Good luck!

Thanks ladies for the response.....my wedding is July 2011 and most of the places I have been to the date is gone but I have been put on a couple of waiting lists. @kmkrushi the church is Annunciation Catholic Church. @ auggiewed thats a good tip I've noticed a couple of venues I've seen are trying really hard to make my budget work so they are accomodating as much as they can be. I was very overwelmed before and since the newness has worn off I think I'm better prepared to make sound clear decisions on a Venue.....I now know what I like and what I don't like.

Not sure if you would be interested in an an art gallery reception.

Originally, my husband and I planned on getting married at t church, in downtown followed by a reception at this art gallery called Bering and James Art Gallery. They have since, changed their name to Bering Art Collective. Here's the website:

I looked into SEVERAL art galleries in Houston and this one was my favorite. Their prices were very reasonable (I believe is was $1000-$1500 to rent the space).
