Lake Mary Events Center

Hi everyone!

I'm new to the boards. I just got engaged in July and we're aiming for an April 2012 wedding. :)

We're looking for a venue that isn't outrageously priced. We live close to downtown Orlando, so I am interested in Winter Park venues. I did, however, get a recommendation for the Lake Mary Events Center and was wondering if anyone had any experience here? The place is gorgeous.

I was also looking at Leu Gardens, but I keep hearing terrible things about them. The website makes it sound like they're so strict, I feel like I would have so much more added stress if the venue is so cold and unwelcoming!

Anyway, I'll probably be lurking around, but it's nice to say hello. So. "Hello!"

I'm getting married there this coming April. We are getting married outside by the lake and the reception will be in the larger half of the ballroom. Lake Mary Events Center is one of the most popular venues in the Orlando area. It books up very quickly, so if you decide to go with it, you should try and book as soon as you can. They book up to 18 months out. All the vendors I talked to from caterers to florists to cake bakers love working there because its pretty much made specifically for weddings. I'm sure plenty of other ladies (there are lots of LMEC girls on here) will have more to chime in, hopefully some that have gotten married already. We did look at Leu Gardens too, but didn't like any of the ceremony sites. The decor in the reception rooms is a little stuffy for me and the rooms were dark. I love LMEC because of all the windows and the light. Good luck!

Welcome to the board and congrats!  I am also a LMEC bride.  We are getting married there in just over 2 months!  We are having our ceremony in the rotunda and the reception in the ball room.  It is a beautiful venue but like Ashley stated books up fast!  A couple other Knottie brides just got married there so hopefully they will be able to chime in as well.

Let us know if you have any questions and good luck with the planning!

I didn't get married there, but I've been to events there and it's really a beautiful space. It's one of the most popular venues in the area, so I'm sure a lot of people will be able to answer any of your questions.

A lot of people here have used/are going to use the Winter Park Farmers Market, so you might want to check that one out if you want something near Winter Park.

Since you're downtown, you may want to look into the History Center if you haven't yet. I don't remember their prices, but I don't think it was extravagant at all.

Anyway, I just wanted to say hi and welcome!

I got married there in July and it was WONDERFUL! Great place, plenty of spots to take photos in. My ceremony was going to be outside by the lake, but it looked like rain so we used the rotunda area as backup, and it was perfect. Still a great view and it was in the A/C haha! The staff is very personable and helpful every step of the way. GL!

I am also a LMEC bride. If this is where you want to have the wedding I would suggest what another poster said, and book it now! It does fill up extremely fast. I went there in January of this year to book our Feb 26 2011 wedding and as Jennifer was showing us around she got a call from a bride who wanted our date ...so we booked right then in their. the place it too beautiful and it had already been filled up for the whole year and already almost half of 2011 (and that was in january!!)

It is gorgeous. We are doing cocktail hour in the Rotunda and reception in the grand ballroom.

But if you decide closer to home in winter park...there is the Farmers market or Casa Feliz (depending on the number of guests).

I'm a farmers market girl and though the competition isn't as great for it, it does fill up pretty quick. I called to book my day 15 months out and a girl had called the day before me and booked my day. FI thought I was crazy for planing so far ahead but it really made me realize that once you know what you want you should book it before someone else does.

LMEC is beautiful and does book up extremely fast. Always go and look at venues in person. My family was personally turned off by the drive to the location, it isn't the nicest drive in town some parts need a little fixing in the area. The venue it self is very beautiful and everyone has had a good experience there, I wish that i had the same level of service when I toured. Jennifer scheduled our appointment and went to Atlanta we were told on the same day and didn't tell anyone in the office that we were coming to tour. So they briefly showed us around the facilities and then walked back into their office without seeing if we had any questions or wanted more information. We just left.

There are also a few historic homes in downtown orlando that I hear are nice if you are looking for a close venue to downtown.

    Thanks everyone!

We'll be going to look at places over the next couple of weeks. Next month marks 18 months until the wedding, so I'm starting to stress a little about the venue and photographer. (Honestly.. how do people do all of this planning in just 6 months?!

I'm a Leu Gardens girl and have had ZERO problems with them. They've been very accommodating and responsive to all questions.

My wedding date is Nov 26, so I'll know soon enough if I have any problems.

We looked at several places and really liked The Courtyard at Lake Lucerne - two different areas for weddings - one with a gazebo and one with a beautiful brick courtyard with twinkly lights, nestled between a couple of historic homes.  Very charming and affordable!
Another great place was Dubsdread Country Club.  MUCH less expensive than boring hotel ballrooms - they do all the food and it starts around $40pp.   Beautiful outdoor area for the ceremony too.  But mostly they were impressive because of the fantastic wedding director there - she runs everything like clockwork.  We didn't end up going with them in the end, but I would recommend that you look at them before you make any final decisions.  It will be beautiful and much less expensive than the Lake Mary Events Center.

We love shooting at Lake Mary Events Center.  The water just adds such a classy, elegant touch.  But you had mentioned Winter Park as well?  Casa Feliz is one of our favorite venues also.  If you have a moment check it out.
