Hurricane Update - everyone OK?

How is everyone? We are fine except for no power or water. We have a lot of downed trees and flooding. They said 5 days for power, but we live near a hospital and are hoping it will be sooner.

I'm using today to do a ton of manual wedding stuff like wrapping the BP gifts, getting the paper items together and writing thank yous for my shower.

I hope everyone and your families are OK!

We are fine, didn't really get much of anything. It wasn't really that windy here, maybe for like an hour? It rained heavy for about an hour, then stopped, then again for a little while. There are no branches, trees, nothing down on my street or in my neighborhood. We got a little water in our basement, but nothing of concern. Our power flickered once, but never went out, and surprisingly our Direct TV stayed on the entire time. There is a "boil water" in effect for some neighboring towns.
Right now it is sunny and nice out, and doesn't look like anything even happened. In this area, it seemed just like a regular heavy rain storm, not a hurricane, or at least nothing like what we were expecting. I expected to see debris flying all over the place and tons of trees and limbs down. I guess we lucked out. I wanna go to the mall! lol

PS, I'm jealous you have 132 pepole coming to your wedding! lol.. we invited about the same amount of people, and we will be lucky if we get 120, our minimum is 125. thanks to FI's sucky family - only a handful of them are actually coming.. and my family has a lot of OOT people that I guess didn't want to bother trying to come :(

You know what? We are LUCKY that we made our minimum of 125. We were only going to invite around 175 to keep it low, but FI had a hard time cutting his guest list. We thought we were going to be way over. That 80/20 rule doesn't always hold true- lol. Can you negotiate to use those $$ for other things at the reception? And you still have time before your due date. We were missing 64 on our RSVP date and had to track down a lot of people. And if you are headed to Short Hills, call first. I have to go to Tiffany bit they are closed! Do you have a lot of wedding stuff to do? I feel like it's a lot and I'm afraid I will forget something.

Oh no! 5 days is a long time without power, but obviously the fact that your safe is what really matters. We lost power at some point during the night, not sure for how long and it was back by the morning. It looks okay outside, but haven't gone out yet. We live in a community on the Hudson and heard the townhouses on the water had some water damage.

Aww...dont worry if u have less people. We invited 215 and ended up with 130 saying yes and having just exactly 125 (our minimum) the day off due to 2 no shows and a few ppl having illness/emergencies. I loved having it a bit smaller..it gave us time to truly talk to everyone (and it cost less! haha). U'll have a beautiful day no matter way :)

And so far so good here...still have power and praying it stays on!

Did you see pics of LBI, Rahway, and Cranford? I will not complain about my morning without power. No major flooding here. New Providence is pretty high up on a hill so we seem okay.

I saw pics on facebook of people motorboating elderly people around. Love seeing people pay it forward.

We're all good over here.  I'm aalmost sad to say that the thunderstorm 2 weeks ago caused more flooding than Irene.  There are a few down trees over town but nothing major.

Looking at our list of non-rsvp'ers... about half are obvious no's.. so we'll see. I haven't asked about negotiating yet, I figure I'll wait until we know for sure. I would've gone to Jersey Gardens today but they are closed.
I've been trying to do things that involve being home.. we just made an ipod playlist for our limo ride to the reception, and we FINALLY ordered the groomsmen gifts.. so still getting a couple checks this weekend!

We were very lucky.  The power flickered but never went out, no trees are down and no flooding here, we just have a puddle in the basement which happens during any prolonged rain storm.  No excuse not to pack for our move this week!  Although the wedding invitations and shower thank yous are weighing heavily on my conscience.  Guess I know what I'll be doing Labor Day weekend!

Hoboken has flooding issues, my FI and I braved it and walked through the down (he lives in JC Heights).  The Heights for the most part is good but Downtown Jersey City has flooding issues, not really sure how I'm getting to work tomorrow because I don't know what the highways look like.  My parents haven't had power since last night and my sister sent me a text with trees in the middle of the road so I can't even go there right now if I wanted too.

We're good at my parents house (about 6 miles west of Point Pleasant Beach). My brother is up at Rutgers and he sent me this picture of Route 18, its nuts there! Classes are supposed to start Thursday and I don't think they're delaying it. I work at UDel and they delayed move-ins from last week until Tuesday and classes from tomorrow until Thursday.

i live in rahway and i feel like i am on an island. there is one road in and out of this town. its terrible. but we got VERY lucky because we had no major damage and the power was only out from 9am-6pm. parents homes are all dry and family is all safe. unfortunately, a lot of friends have lost cars, belongings, and have had major damange done to their homes (10 feet of water in one friends family home). its been an INSANE weekend but this always makes you so very thankful for all of your friends and family and their never ending support. as well as, your family, friends, and own health and safety.

We were flooded in Hoboken, My building was asked to leave if you were facing the river 5th floor or lower so we went to a hotel in the city and camped out there. our building is still closed to some residents as there were some issues. And the engineers are checking out the area where the sink hole was to make sure that is secure. Other than that all is good here, hope you all are OK too.

I am in Cranford, and we have the same thing, we aren't even able to get to the other side of town because our entire downtown is shut down and flooded. It is a shame, my parents house lost everything, and we are only a few blocks away and had no damage what so ever to our basement, some downed trees and such, but the water damage others have suffered is incredible. The only thing that has me so mad is the people on FB saying that they are disappointed by Irene! My parents had water pouring in doors and windows and had to evacuate to my house. They should be grateful, not acting like this wasn't a disaster. I agree with the one way in and out, it does feel like an island!

We are ok however we wont have our power back on until Sept 4th it went out sunday morning at around 7 am and we still don't have it.  We are living at my parents house.  Tried to clean up as much as we could yesterday.  The fire dept shut off our gas and hot water heater.  We had to buy a new hot water heater.  We are praying that our washer and dryer are fine.  We have to wait and see once we get everything turned back on.  I am hoping we get assistance from FEMA.  We had to buy a generator to pump out all of the water in our basement.

But thankfully we are ok just sucks not being home for a week!
