April 2013 Weddings

Need Decoration Ideas

I've figured out that the general theme I'm going for is "French Flower Market."

I'm French and I always wanted a garden/flowery/whimsical like type of wedding, so put the two together and that's what I came up with.

We have these for centerpieces

Tall tin/steel buckets with peach/ivory/light pink flowers, small/dark/square with a green pomander (I bought the pomanders with intentions of hanging them from the walls, but turns out my venue won't allow anything to be hung/attached from the walls, so I had to repurpose those) and mason jar candles. I still haven't finalized what they will be filled with, but that general concept.

NOW, I need help deciding how to carry out this theme throughout the rest of the space.
We're limited in that we cannot hang/drape anything from the walls or ceiling.  Our venue overlooks an amazing garden, but it'll probably be covered in snow in April anyways. It's a relatively modern feeling space. Here are pics..

Any free-standing decorating ideas??

Re: Need Decoration Ideas

  • I am in love with your centerpieces, they are gorgeous!

Are you going to have any cocktail tables set up? The only suggestion I have is to set up something similar to your centerpieces on the tables/flat areas around the room and even in the bathroom maybe.

But for serious, I love your centerpieces. :)

    Awesome Centerpieces!

You could place something on the bar to help carry the theme through the room.  Also, your seating chart or placecard display can be an accent as well.  Myself I am doing a vintage type placecard holder... might go with your theme?

  • Thanks guys!!

I got the buckets/vases from save-on-crafts and the silk flower "bouquets" from a-floral. They come premade, so I took them apart to and re-arranged them in each vase to make them a little fuller.

I also found some super awesome small wooden box things (at good will!) that I spray painted white that I will fill with moss and more flowers, as well as a 2-shelved wicker stand thing that I strung flowers on. I plan on putting small painted wooden letters that say something on the top shelf, and the bottom will just be full of more flowers. Those will decorate the placecard and guest book tables. I should snap pictures of those... they are at my mom's. They turned out way super cute and were so ridiculously cheap. The boxes were 1-3 dollars a piece, spray paint cans were like 5 bucks, and the flowers from a-floral. The wicker shelf thing was free from my brother's house LOL.

I, too, was looking at table overlays and decided against them. I made table runners with my grandma. Half are more of sage-ish colored with a daisy trim, and the other half are more of a pastel-y green (matches the pomanders almost exactly! So those centerpieces will go on those tables) with a more modern white trim.

We're going to have plain old white tablecloths and napkins. We have the choice of white or ivory tc's and can choose from a wide variety of colored napkins, but I just thought it'd be too much mish-mash of colors and too busy so we settled on white and white so the runners and centerpieces can be the highlight of the tables.

Thanks from bringing up cocktail tables... that never even crossed my mind. I should double check between the venue and the caterer if either provides cocktail tables.

Thank you for all the extra ideas on decorating!
  • Have you seen your venue set up for a wedding? I think you will be fine once the room is filled with tables and chairs. I agree with the PP, ultilize your escort, favor, wedding cake table as places to carry out your theme more. Even where you will have your wedding gifts or card box. Awesome purchases from save-on-crafts. I am making one tonight for items for my DIY candy buffet. I found some awesome rustic pieces to incorporate. Dredding the shipping charge from them though :)
