Getting in Shape

feel like i'm going backwards!

As you know i'm 5'2" at 168.8 lbs. I started 30 day shred on Saturday, dieting, and doing 400 calories on treadmill. Today is day 4 and I am at 167.4 which is a 1.4 lb loss in 4 days. I was so proud. Yesterday was the first time I could get through that dvd on level one without breaks. I went to do the dvd today and could barely get through the warm up. I feel like I went backwards. I must have pulled something in my right outside thigh because that muscle pulls. I tried to walk instead but completely no motivation. I have a friend on FB post she lost 9.4 lbs in 7 days doing that Pink method. I understand the heavier you are the easier it is to start losing in the beginning. But, damn its discouraging. Now, i'm so angry and lost my motivation. Need some uplifting words of advice and people that have been where I'm sitting. Thanks!

  • 9.4 lbs in 7 days is likely mostly water weight.

1-2 lbs per week is considered to be a normal weight loss.  Something I read recently pointed out that slow and steady weight loss is much more likely to be sustainable long term and that quick weight loss by gimicky methods often returns.  It didn't take you a week to gain the weight, you shouldn't get depressed if it takes more than that to take it off.

Count your calories, keep getting exercise however you can, and don't eat crap. That's the secret to weight loss.

<div> I completely agree with this. Initially, a large weight loss like that will be from water weight. I think that was the case for me when I started losing. Eight months out from my wedding I wanted to lose around 55 lbs, but by the time the wedding came around I only lost 22 (which was a huge accomplishment). Most weeks I'd see a loss of 1-3 lbs and some weeks I didn't lose anything, but I also didn't gain. I'm glad that I didn't lose more than I did because I don't think that I'd be able to keep it up. Since getting married in October, I lost 5 lbs in that first month and have been able to maintain my weight. My next goal is to lose another 28 lbs before we start TTC.</div><div>
</div><div>With that all said, slow and steady is definitely the way to go. Get plenty of exercise, count calories and make sure you're eating a balanced diet. And definitely don't deprive yourself of certain foods. You'll only go on a binger in the end. Good luck! I'm sure you can achieve your goal.</div>

  • I agree with PPs.

Also, If you feel like you may have hurt yourself then don't push yourself to do the dvd workout.  You can always focus on exercises that won't strain your legs.  After just 2 days of ripped in 30 I'm taking a break and doing crunches for today.  My legs are SO sore.
