Re: Wedding Wednesday

  • We aren't doing much right now. We have a cake tasting scheduled for the 16th that I have to call and change the date of. I forgot I have to be in Syracuse that day. I emailed our DJ and asked him to add the ceremony to our contract since it originally only was for cocktail hour and the reception. And I emailed my photographer and one other photographer about a boudoir shoot. My photographer is a little more expensive but that because she comes to your house and does the shoot in our own bed. But she doesn't have much experience doing it. The other lady is a bit cheaper, has a super professional studio specifically for boudoir, she'll bring in a hair and makeup artist and her pictures came out amazing. I'm leaning towards using her instead of our wedding photographer just because she specializes in it versus my photographer who really only does weddings and events. Not sure yet, but hopefully I can decide and make a deposit soon.

  • cnf, have fun with the shoot!

My mom told me this week that she's going to pay for our flowers and figure out other ways to help us out. I'm so happy that she's going to pay for the flowers I wasn't going to be able to afford it all so we were cutting out the centerpieces and some of the decor to cut the cost down to something we could afford. FI and I bought 6inch terra cotta flower pots that we're going to paint and put some flowers in next spring. They'll line the aisle for them ceremony and then bring them inside to decorate the reception space. We also got a big hurricane vase and candle for our small in memory of piece. We got a few other decorations for the ceremony too. We're putting a hold on wedding things now since school starts for me today and all we have left are the details since everything else has been booked!

  • I want to do a boudoir shoot soo bad, but I can't find anything reasonably priced. Eveyrthing is like $1000 or more. I keep checking groupon but I can't find any long Island deals as of yet. I'm going to have to really dig deep in my research.

Only thing wedding related I did was take a look at some BM dresses. i didn't see any that I really liked though. I've been having some trouble getting my BM's together, hopefully in October everything will slow down a bit. I also would like to get my wedding diet kicked into high gear. I've really been slacking, and I'm hoping over the next few days I can get motvated and start doin gbetter next week.

  • I have my dress!

...I do need to (a) get it altered because the bust is GINORMOUS and (b) um, lose the 10lbs I've gained since February (had surgery and began eating meat for a few months, two bad combos for this former-and-now-current vegan).

But hey, $12 for a Jessica McClintock (okay, not white, but I am not a white-dress girl, plus my Tiny Human would dirty it up in five seconds flat) at a thrift store? Can't go wrong.

I also got my labels printed up for the bridal shows, including one late this month. Future Husband has approved. He's checked with his professors about missing a week of classes and they okayed it. (Funny story: He asked one professor, who was a joking kind of guy. The professor asked why, if FH didn't mind sharing. He said something like, "I'm flying up to Boston to see my tiny human and propose to his mother..." and explained how we had Tiny when we were in our late teens and we're just now working things out. The professor's response was something like, "Yeah, that's important! Go do that!") So, he just has to speak with another professor today and then he's getting his ticket. And then I get my shiny...

    Seriously. Cross-country relationships are frustrating.

  • I finished up the images for our save the dates yesterday. The original design I made had some distortion issues with the one picture, so I scrapped it completely and re-worked everything last night. I'm going to order them on Friday, I think (yay for payday).

I'm also pretty postive I found wedding shoes (hooray!!). I have 30 days to return them, so if I don't find something else I like better in that time, I'll keep them.

I'm going to try to remember to call the florist & a seamstress this week. I know I need to get on it, but I keep remembering at really inopportune moments, like at 10:30 at night when I'm in the shower.
  • Have a few checks this week, after like 6+ weeks of wedding hiatus:

Finally got the guts up to ask my Maid of Honor, she said yes!  She's my college (and post college) roomie and I couldn't be more excited.
I sent the addresses to my mother for our save the dates and she got them all done in like 2 days. Bless her.
With that our wedding website is pretty much finished, though FI needs to add a couple of pics to it.
We've got both contracts with hotels for room blocks now sorted.

Hoping to make some appointments with dj and cake places in the next week or 2 for when we're in Boston at the end of the month!  Checks all over the place! :D

  • Last night we had our tasting. Most everything was soo good! So we have a good idea of what our menu will be. My FI was a happy guy. He helps with the wedding planning, but only when I bring it up. Last night he started talking about all these plans after the tasting. I guess that's what it took to spark that excitement in him again about the wedding. Although he was talking about it while I was trying to fall asleep, I didn't mind one bit! I'm just glad he's now as excited about planning as I am!
  • Congrats to all of you on your checks! We have done absolutely nothing this week. I still have to schedule an appointment with a florist, so that is our next big thing to do.

  • Booked the DOC, booked the photobooth, FI is laid off this week from work so today he's working on hangers for the bridesmaids and directional signs for the venue.  Chalk boards are ordered (using them as signs in the reception area), chair covers are ordered, wedding shoes purchased (and I absolutely LOVE them).  FI and I are meeting with my pastor tonight to begin wedding counseling...YAY!  Wedding script is mostly written (just been waiting on the meetings with the pastor to finalize details).  The vendor who's doing the embroidery on my veil sent me pictures of what it would look like...I decided to make a couple of tweaks to it and now I'm just waiting on one more picture to send her the approval to complete the veil Laughing  FMIL and I talked about the embroidery on my dress and what the bodice will look like.  Discussed cake designs with the friend who's doing our wedding cake.  We'll schedule a tasting later in the year.

Looks like everyone's being really productive on their to-do lists these days!  I'm envious of all you ladies who have your STDs done.  I'm still trying to get FBIL to send the STD pictures he took of us so I can get them designed and over to the printer Tongue Out

  • Finally got a baker to get back to me, I emailed two of them and hadn't heard back in over a week.  One did get back to me and her prices are definitely reasonable.  She will be doing everything including delivery for $330 so now we just have to work out the small details (color ribbon, color frosting on cupcakes, flavors, etc.)  So I have an almost check lol.

I am almost official on makeup too, I did my trial and sent in the contract and deposit.  I have a hair girl in mind but I havent done the trial or booked her yet, she is my MOH's regular hair girl.

DIY actually moving forward, I have my glass frosted and my tags came in for my escort cards so this weekend I will be making chalkboard paint and making the signs/escort cards.  AND I have this thing for DSW where you get a free tote if you spend $40 and the shoes Ive had my eye on just came back in my size sooo will be ordering those soon too.

  • Good morning!

Haven't gotten much accomplished I feel like. We've been writing limo companies back in forth via e-mail to try and compare the lowest prices... but they're all so expensive! I can't believe it. I've also been trying to contact the Deacon of our church to make sure he will be doing our shorter ceremony (we're Catholic and opted for the shorter mass vs. longer, full ceremony) so I'm hoping I hear back soon that it's been changed. Next weekend I will be looking at bridesmaids dresses with all of my girls and I'm so excited!

  • I finally got around to blocking hotel rooms!  I've done a bit of research, and finally narrowed it down to my top two favorites.  I talked to the sales director at the top pick, and I liked everything they had to say.  My hotel has an indoor pool, indoor mini golf, a lounge for after-party partying with pool tables and foos ball.  I am super excited!

  • I purchased Thank you cards this week, because wedding paper divas had a 50% off. I changed my centerpiece idea because real flowers were going to cost us way too much money. We are now using the floating flower idea with a cylinder vase. There will be glass beads on the bottom and a floating candle at the top. I am really excited about using them. Along with flowers I also finished my DIY pommander balls for the pews in the church. It took me 4 months to make them and I had to make 14 of them. They turned out really good but obviously took a lot of time. Here is the link http://www.holiday-crafts-and-creations.com/pomander-balls.html I made the purple ones.

I also purchased organza table runners from this website I found. It's called efavormart.com. I got 25 of them for 40 bucks!! I will probably purchase table linens from there too because they are cheaper to buy then to rent and I can sell them to someone else when our wedding is over.

Lastly, this Sat we are finally going to a travel agent to plan our honeymoon!! Yay!

  • wow congrats on the checks everyone! looks like it was a really successful week for everyone.

I have my e-pics on Monday! I can hardly wait, we have had them booked since March! I still have noo idea what to wear or what to have FI wear. I am going for my makeup trial earlier in the day so my makeup will be all pretty for my pictures.

Tomorrow FI and I are going to talk to people at 2 hotels to possibly book a room block.

I am also going to schedule a cake tasting for Tuesday.

  • Meghannsix-  You're killing me!  A Steelers fan, in Baltimore!  While I do have a natural born hatred for the Steelers, fortunately I can admit that they are a darn good team.

rmp- you cant find boudoir for under $1000!  I am so sorry, thats absolutely insane.  I really hope you can find it for cheaper.

  • Good evening! First "Wedding Wednesday" post. :)

I got SO much done this week! :) Monday we called hotels to figure out which hotel we want to reserve a block of rooms at. We sent out the contract and deposit for our chair cover/sashes rental. We designed and ordered our save the dates after completely finalizing our guest list (it is VERY hard to stay at under 210 when your fiances family is huge)! Started getting addresses together so we can send out save the dates when they come in. We are working on nailing down a date to meet for a cake tasting. Looked into a party bus company to take us from the church to the places we are getting photographs at and then to the reception.

I'm feeling pretty good about where I'm at planning wise. Glad to see everyone else got so much done as well! :D

  • I picked up my dress last Saturday!  It came in a month earlier than planned which was awesome!  It's soooo beautiful and I'm so glad to finally have a lace dress!  I had a pretty good experience with David's Bridal (except when they ordered me the wrong dress and then had to re-order the right one), but I was just so anxious to get it out of there without having to deal with anything crazy!  My mom's coworker is doing the alterations and she's amazing, so I'm really excited!  She is going to have to take the top in, and she said she will make it more of a sweetheart neckline as well.  She's also making me a veil, so I can check that off my list too!

Other than that, I'm still just trying to find an affordable hair/makeup person.  It's so hard!  If anyone lives in the Philly/Delaware area and can recommend someone, let me know!  And yes, I did ask that on my local board haha.

Sorry!  My FI, who is a die hard Ravens fan, always says he probably wouldn't hate the Steelers so much, if they weren't so good.  Football season is always an interesting time around my house!
