Artsy Photographers

Hello all,

I am just starting my search for photographers. I am looking for someone who will take a good mix of posed and candid shots. I'm also looking for a photographer with a certain "something" in their photos - it's hard to describe. I'm seeing a lot of photographers that take pretty photos, but not a lot of special photos. I also see a lot of photos where the composition and background are amazing, but their photography isn't really about the couple - just about the pretty scenery. I really like Corey Ann's style but she is already booked for my date. DV8ED Photography has also caught my eye. I also would like to own the copyright to my photos so I can do whatever I like with them. Has anyone used a photographer that they really really liked and thought the quality was great for the money? Someone with a little bit more of an artsy eye?

Thanks in advance!

We used Finest Moments and they seemed pretty "arty" but I wasn't really super looking for that so I don't know! They didn't spend a lot of time on posed photos but we still got all the required family shots and they didn't look super stuffy. I do know that at the time we booked them (last July) they did give you the DVD with all your photos on it and you do have the rights to print the pictures, which was a huge selling point for us. I think they probably still do this but you'll want to check, of course. Here's their blog with their most recent work: http://finestmomentsphoto.com/index.php?sortby=catWeddings

We have Corey Ann (love her) but I've heard good things about Elizabeth Pruitt, Linczak and Rad Photography.  I've had a couple friends who used Leah Stafford, pretty but mixed reviews

My first choice was Jay Kossman of Digital504. His photos have the artsy "it" factor, and his prices are right. Unfortunately he is booked for my date so I have to find someone else :(

We used candidexpressions and loved them.  They are a married couple and also give you the copyright release.  They did a good balance of artsy and the traditional pics as well.  I felt that they are very reasonably priced.  I would highly recommend them.

Try Jessica Love Photography.  She and her husband will be doing my wedding.  I love her photos and have known her since I was in about 2nd grade!

I was looking for the same thing with my photos.  My sister lives in Erie and found this amazing photographer to do hers, and he had that "something" I was looking for in the photos.  So, I booked him for my wedding next October.  You should really check him out.  For $1,995 I'm getting 1,000+ photos, full day coverage, each photo he individually re-touches (he is a perfectionist), and full rights to reproduction.  His photos speak for themselves.  Anyway, his name is Eric Smyklo, his website is www.smyklophoto.com and he is also on Facebook where you can see more of his photos.  He literally does a wedding every Friday, Saturday and Sunday.  He's a super busy guy, and he books up quickly, but he's worth it.  AND he's willing to travel.

Ken Love all the way -- he is a former photojournalist is a total artist!  Amazing prices for all the work he does.  Bonus - you get the rights to all the photos he takes (around 6,000 or so per wedding) and he'll retouch many of them for you.  He did my engagement photos, too, and took over 600 images - all mine to use as I wish, plus he retouched about 20 of them for me and added cool effects.  Check him out: http://kenlovephotography.com/
