help me pick my photographer?

Hey all!

Would you ladies be kind enough to help me out? I am stuck between 2 photographers who are essentially the same price. We put the deposit down on 1, and had to change the date on her once already and had to do it again - she is currently in talks with another bride (for a new/higher fee) for the date I have changed my wedding to.

I personally feel that I have to ask her to change it again because shes probably lost out on jobs for the two dates I had before, and I kind of want to start fresh. I dont want there to be any resentment or anything when she is taking our wedding photos (although I am sure she is a professional and the chances of that are slim to none), so I dont know if I should wait it out and see if shes available for that day or book with another photographer who is currently open on the day but can get booked up. She has been amazing, and I feel terrible being such an inconvenience to her.

1 - www.elizabethinlove.com (already booked)
2 - www.whitephotographie.com (one considering)

Their photos are very similar, what would you do in my position?

Thanks!

  • Neither one would be a bad choice, I can see where you'd be conflicted :-) They both do beautiful work.

I guess I would wait it out for now unless that other bride has put down a deposit too. Technically you have the upper hand since you already put money down.

  • Thanks Saltz!

Yeah, I am pretty confused. Since I put the deposit down on another day, the other bride might have an upper hand - and also since she would be paying a much higher rate. I will keep checking my emails like a crazy paranoid person.

  • I think they're both really good, but I like your orignal photographer a little better.

  • I agree both photographers are great!!! I do like the first photographer more though but which ever one you end up with you will still have amazing photos.

But wouldn't the deposit secure your date? That's where I'm confused because I would think that she wouldn't be able to accept "bids" if you already have a deposit? I could be wrong, but I know that, in my experience at least, the deposit holds the date for you (and ultimately the contract). Have you done any contracts with her?

I do like the first one a little better, but I don't think you could go wrong with either as they both do very beautiful work!

Augurey - I am not sure how it works to be honest, I thought the deposit secures the date I had initially put down the deposit for and no other, anything is up to her discretion. She never actually said no, shes out of town right now so shes been slow in the emails. In my first email I said we were thinking about changing dates and asked if she was available for this specific date, she got back to me and said she was talking to someone and if we were to change dates I would have to put down a larger deposit and to let her know what we decide. So I shot her back an email and said we did change the date but would still like to work with her, I'll wait for her reply. Hopefully she says she will do the change.

Maybe I'm just an idiot and understood everything wrong.

  • I think your deposit would only cover your initial agreed date and if you were to change, then its up to the discretion of the photographer (ie they can say no if they have already booked someone else.)
I love the work of both photographers - have you met with the second one yet? Sometimes you just get that feeling when you meet with vendors. Good luck!

  • I really do like both, I lean toward the first, original one though.  I would wait it out and see how things go with the first one though.  Hope everything works out!!
