Christmas/Holiday Cards

My BF and I were talking about maybe sending out Christmas cards this year... you know, the kind that you have printed with a picture and you write a little note.

Typically, it seems people send these out of their kids.  We were thinking of just sending it to close family and friends (parents, siblings, grandparents, mutual friends).

What do you think?  Are you going to do this?

ETA:  My Mom makes a big deal about putting Christmas cards on the fridge, so I know she'd love it, and my grandparents hang their Christmas cards all over the house.  This is what we're thinking:

I'm thinking about doing this with BF too.  Looking forward to the responses.

Is it crazy that I think a pet would definitely make it ok?

Naw, that was my thought, too.  We've got a goldfish... doesn't make for a very cuddly picture, though!

I was thinking of using the picture from our recent USMC reception - BF looks very handsome in his uniform, and I looked darn good in that red dress if I do say so.  Plus, the uniform is green and my dress is red.  Perfect Christmas colors!

I voted yes. People should be able to tell the difference between a Christmas card and STD. We're not doing this because we're just not organized, but I think its cute. I'm sure you wouldn't be the first couple to do it without kids or a doggie.

I think the idea is cute, I don't think it looks like an STD but it does feel odd to me to do it when you aren't engaged or married. But at the same time, I'm not sure why I feel that way so who cares, you'd only be sending it to people you're close to any way. I don't think it's a big deal.

I voted "maybe" as I thought this is a what would you do, but not what we think for you.. If you like the idea I say do it!  There's nothing wrong with it at all, I'm just the worst at sending out cards and things like that.  Foot in mouth

Umm we do this every year with our pets....they are more of "funny" cards tho...people (and by that I mean "we") think it's hilarious. Smile

We also sent out Halloween cards w/our pets (hey hey before u judge, the shelter has these "photo shoots" for fundraising, we're not *that* crazy....ok maybe we are....).

We have rabbits, so ours will say: HOPPY Holidays. Laughing (Groan, groan, I know).

If you don't want to send out holiday cards w/your picture, there are also some charities which come out with holiday cards each year like World Wildlife Foundation, ACS, others.....

Having said that, I would feel weird sending a picture of "us" but that's probably just me.

FI and I did one of those cards for the first time two years ago (we weren't engaged yet), because I thought it would be fun to do one with our new kitten. Before that, I used to actually hand write cards and envelopes to send to all our family and friends. After I learned how ridiculously quick and easy it was to create and send those cards, I don't think I could ever go back to handwriting them. So last year I just used a picture of us I had laying around, this year I think I'll do one that I took last year of kitty sitting next to a Christmas-y stuffed animal.

    I say go for it!

ETA: Calindi, the card you drafted looks great!! Your dress is so festive and perfect for the card! You make a lovely couple, btw :)

I love it, except it looks like your BF is holding something Innocent and you're trying to cover it with the snowflake.
    Different clipart, maybe?

Of course, I'm probably the only person that thinks this.

Thanks girls!  Yeah, I do really like that picture, although I wish he'd smile - he claims he's not allowed to in uniform.

Yes! I totally thought the same thing... I might end up moving the snowflake off to one side.  He's holding his cover (Marine-talk for hat) which he's not allowed to wear indoors but MUST wear outdoors.  Silly uniforms.

DO it!  I like the idea, and if its only for close friends and family then I don't think they will take it as a STD.  I was going to suggest you guys take a picture in crazy Christmas sweaters, that would be AWESOME!  I also agree with PP on moving that snowflake seems like its there to hide something.  Which in this case is just his cover and that doesn't need to be hidden.  I just send out funny x-mas cards for christmas.  Which reminds i need to go hunt some down.

Couldn't move the snowflake, so I shifted the picture... how's this?  You still can't see what's in his hand, but at least it doesn't look like we're hiding it.

Super cute, and I love the idea.  I want to do something similar, but haven't gotten around to it.  I think it'd be really funny if you did an informal one with your goldfish, but the dressy photo is probably the better choice.  :)

Great idea...FI's sister does this and several of my friends from the whole family, not just the kids, so I see no problem with it.  FI and I sent out Christmas cards together last Christmas and we weren't engaged yet.  We actually had a picture taken at Thanksgiving and had those printed up to stick in the cards - everyone told us they loved getting them.

My family gets a family portrait done every year. We also get singles of each of us kids which have grown to include BFs. This year my mom signed Adam and I up for our own session since it's cheaper than the $20 extra they've been charging for an extra copy of ours. We're going to put some copies in our Christmas cards to family members and a few of our friends since we have our own place now.

I think it's a cute idea.  I've had a couple friends do this.  They were married but still at that time they had no kids so they sent a picture card with a note and a couple little pictures.  If you have pets that looks cute too, at least I think so Smile

We were considering this, but are leaning towards photo thank you cards instead, haha.

This is primarily because the rest of the cousins in the fam didn't start sending out Christmas cards until they were married (it wasn't public knowledge they were living together, like it is with me and BF)

Maybe next year?  I dunno..I'm gonna go read the rest of everyone's responses now too :)

Definitely do it. My cousin and his wife did that before they had kids. They made theirs into a joke though. Each dreaming of the stanley cup for their respective hockey teams...Toronto and Montreal. And there were other ones too, they were pretty creative and I loved getting them.

I like it. Especially if a pet is included (just makes it cuter in my mind), lol.

I coudln't get Rufus to stay still long enough to make that happen so regular cards for us.

I think you should do it. Not to send to everybody and their mother and cousin too, but rather just to very close friends and family members who you know would appreciate it.

Mine are printed, addressed, stamped and ready to be sent - we don't have children so we put our dogs on there (yes it a little cheesy) but we just sent them out to immediate friends/family etc. We had a blast picking out pictures together to put on there. Do it!
