Storing Wine??

I just recently got engaged and my fiance and I decided to have a long-ish engagement (2 years). One to save up more $ and Two I'm working a getting into a school program.

I wanted to start buying some cases of wine at places like Costco/Sam's Club as the engagement goes along, but don't know how long the wine can be stored and how to store it?? Is just a cool dark back room okay? Or should I wait until it gets closer to the wedding because it won't last that long?  I'm just trying to stretch the $$ and clearly don't know much about how to store wine, I usually drink it ;) .

Thanks!! :)

  • I'm going to assume you don't have a wine fridge and dont want to invest in one....<grin>

Store in a cool, dry place. Aim for 50-55 deg, low hyumidit.  I see you're in Nor Cal... so actually you should be good on the humidity. I'm guessing you don't have a basement... but if your house doesn't get too hot you should be ok. You don't want a lot of fluctuation in temperature overall.

What area are you near? I lived in Petaluma for a few years. It would be neat if you went on tasting days and picked up a few bottles here and there and had stories to go with your hand selected wine! If you're going for low cost though, I'd suggest Bottle Barn in Santa Rosa if you're anywhere near there: http://www.bottlebarn.com/

They have amazing deals and a lot of them have reviews you can go by. The employees can select good wines for you too.

You'll never be subject to a cash bar, gap, potluck wedding, or b-list if you marry a Muppet Overlord.

</div><div>Haha, nope. No wine fridge, we do have a small wine cooler, but that probably won't hold much.  I grew up in Petaluma and that's where it'll be stored (@ my parent's house)!</div><div>
</div><div>Thanks for the help & suggestions!! I will definitely be hitting up Costco, Bottle Barn, and BevMo in Santa Rosa :)</div><div>

  • So jealous. I'd do anything to be in Petaluma right now.  I miss it wicked bad. Bottle Barn too.... wine availability is awful in New Hampshire and costs way more here. boo.
