Let fiance choose his own tux...

I'm kind of a control freak... This was a HUGE step for me, but today he had time to go do it, and I'm home super sick...He chose a white tie for himself. His groomsmen's attire sounds great...but.... I *dislike* white ties, I think. I can't ever even remember seeing one on any groom... Not bowtie, just, necktie. It's black tux, white vest, white shirt, white tie....I think?

Can someone tell me this is okay??? Or, tell me it's not so I can make him change it!!

Trying to remain calm and not control-freakish...

    miine's wearing an ivory shirt and ivory vest since i'll be in ivory. however, he wants to wear some kind of purple and was insisting on a light purple shirt (to match bridesmaid dresses), but i refused. don't get me wrong, he looks great in purple, but i think in pictures the guys should match us. however, i did find him a nice tie that has black, ivory and a couple shades of purple. i think that'll work.
    so if you're wearing white, it'll look good if he's in white too! dont' freak out. it'll look great  :)

    I am wearing "diamond white"... I think it's the lightest shade of ivory out there, so it's really closer to white for all intents and purposes of my grooms' apparel.

    :)

    I'm going to trust his judgment, despite the fact that it's killing me! lol

    mine wore ivory vest and ivory tie b/c my dress was ivory. 

    it is totally normal if your dress is white for the guy to wear a white tie and potentially vest.

    Kristin's pic shows you it can be a great look!

    Joe had a white shirt to match my dress and a silver vest and silver tie to go along with the silver beading in my dress.

    The groomsmen were in charcoal vests and ties and had pocket squares to match our burgundy BMs (the squares were made out of the same material)

    Whatever you both decide will be ok. It's your wedding! As long as his shirt / vest / tie closely matches your dress - you will be fine. (You don't want that to be mismatched - if he is in white and you are in ivory, it may look off in photos. See if you can get a dress swatch of the color of your gown that way you can go to the store and see if your groom selected the right shade of shirt / vest / tie.

    But - trust me - it will be fine!

    Yes-- I sent him off to take care of it with swatches from my bridesmaids, maid of honor, and my own dress! And I spoke with the lady at the store and told her basically what I wanted. I'm just going to trust that it's fine... Plus, I have my dad going there later this week to get fitted for a tux.... He'll tell me if anything seems frighteningly off about Nick's selections!! :)  The lady at the store seemed trustworthy over the phone anyway, but I was SO sick that day, who knows!! I was in la la land. Then he came home and I was just like " ....White tie?...."

    I totally disagree with this. I think ivory shirts look dirty and don't look right with tuxes at all. I also think you'll never get two shades of ivory to match exactly so one will end up looking darker anyway.

    I complete disagree about ivory looking dirty. I've seen it in person and if it looked dirty I'd never pick it for my FI to wear. I think it would look silly for him to wear white when I'll be wearing ivory.

    To clarify what I was saying before...

    There is white. And then a thousand possible shades of ivory. (Mainly 5 or 6 levels, but they can go by so many different color names based on the designer...

    ivory, candlelight, diamond white, cream, champagne, soft white, etc, etc etc.

    Soft white chiffon will probably be the lightest ivory. Followed by diamond white and them the cream and champagne shades will be the darkest.

    IF you give your fiance a swatch of the fabric of your dress, then he and the store staff can recommend a shirt color that will look best.
     
    If you have a white dress - then a white shirt will look best. Also, if you are in a soft white or diamond white dress, a white shirt may be a better color match.

    BUT if your dress is a cream, dark ivory or champagne color, then you aren't going to want your fiance (that day your husband) to be in white. In that case, the store's ivory (or whatever they call it non-white shirt) will probably be a better pick. Since your dress is on the darker side.

    Lighter dress, lighter shirt. Darker dress, darker shirt.

    The colors probably won't exactly match. But if you are in a true ivory dress, an ivory shirt will look better on your groom.

    But that's why they have swatches. Look around and see the choices. If you are going to look for groomsmen vest colors to look best with your bridesmaids, it only makes sense to have your groom look best to you.
