Help with DJ!

Hey all,

I'm in the midst of planning a wedding for next summer (8/28/10) at the Heritage Plantation in Sandwich, and I have no idea how to start looking for a DJ!  Does anyone have any great recommendations?  We are looking for someone who can make it feel like a real party (a mix between motown/80s and newer stuff like Sean Paul and Rihanna) without any of the really "weddingy" things (ie no Electric Slide).

Also, I have no idea how to go about finding who is good.  How did you all do it?  What factors did you consider?  Did you ask for sample playlists? CDs? I live in Brooklyn, so I'm semi-long distance and would like to narrow our choices down before deciding.

Thanks!

My fiance and I just met with Scott from CapeTunes and we loved him! our wedding is 9/4/11 and we already booked him! he is very personable and easygoing, He gave many references and brought his laptop to play some music. He makes a "plan" before the wedding and seems very professional. Also reasonably priced!

I am using Danny Walsh based on many recommendations from other cape brides including one of my bridesmaids. He is really nice to talk to and seems really laid back. His prices are reasonable I think it was 250 per hour.

    Good luck!

We're using Mark Friedman from 2wayentertainment.  He's got the range of music you're looking for, I think.  I found him on recommendation from our reception venue and my mother (who heard him at a New Year's Eve bash).

I live in Northern Jersey so I know what you're dealing with distance-wise with organizing.  We (my FI and I) met with Mark at his studio in East Falmouth on one of our many trips to the Cape.  He's a great guy (he's originally from the Bronx, to boot)!  If you are interested in booking him, ask to have him specifically; he's got other DJs that work for him, but I've heard he's the best of them by far!
