Great Locations for Wedding Photos

Hello all,

I don't post often but follow this board a lot. Our wedding is in 5 weeks, eek!, and we are now trying to figure out some good locations for our pictures. We will be in the Federal Hill area for both the ceremony and reception (Federal Hill park for ceremony and AVAM for reception). We are doing a "first look" photo and the majority of the bridal party shoots before the ceremony. I was thinking Patterson Park to start then work our way to Fells Point then back to the harbor area. Thoughts? Has anyone had good/bad experiences shooting at any of these places? Is there anywhere that would  be better backdrops and provide more options? I would like to keep the driving to a minimum. All ideas welcome!

Thank you!

I would check with your photographer first to see what their thoughts are.  Honestly - I don't think you'll have nearly as much time as you think to take all of those pictures throughout the city.  To worry about the whole wedding party and parking and traffic, etc...it's going to be a headache.

There are a lot of good photo ops around AVAM and Federal Hill.  Depending on where you are getting ready, and timing, I would stay in those areas - maybe venture down to the Science Center.

I am having my reception at AVAM too!  We are planning to take pictures around Federal Hill Park and around the museum.  There are so many photo ops right there that we're not doing more around the city.  I agree that it would be too chaotic to figure out transportation for everyone and parking.  And it would take forever to drive from AVAM to Fells and then back... are you thinking this will be between the ceremony and reception?

We're doing this all before the ceremony. About 2.5 hours prior. The photographers aren't from the area so they have no preference or know much about the area. Which is why we are trying to figure out where to go. I would like 2- 3 different areas, including the harbor and Federal Hill, so all the pictures don't look the backdrop. I was concerned about Patterson Park because of it's distance and it not providing many options. My fiance just told me he'd like to have some done at Fort McHenry and that's not too far so it might be do-able. Jenn, do you know if we can have pictures taken inside the main building of the museum? Because then that could be one location and we could nix one of the other places.

    Thanks for your thoughts!

When I was thinking of having our wedding/reception at AVAM I googled "visionary art museum wedding" and a lot of photographer websites came up with actual weddings at the museum.  That might be a good place to look to get a better idea of the possibilities with the museum.  I've seen pictures of couples in the nest on the side of the building and inside in the hallways, near windows and/or on the stairs.  But I haven't seen any pictures with the exhibits in the backround so I'm thinking maybe that's off limits.  But there are plenty of other options in the museum.  Jennifer Hughes, Love Life Images, Studio Juno and Roman Grinev are some photographers that have shot weddings there that I've seen and liked.  They came up in the google search I did and had some amazing shots!  I love the photos with the mirrored bus outside the museum and the giant egg, and in front of the "Love" sign on the side of the building.  The stairs in the museum are pretty fantastic too.

Also behind the Rusty Scupper there is a promenade behind the Ritz Carlton residences that is lined with lanterns and has a gorgeous view of the city--would probably be awesome in the evening and is walkable from AVAM. Also overlooks Domino Sugar sign. We are hoping to get engagement pics done in the same area of Federal Hill/AVAM!

I agree with smange about trying to limit photo locations... that would totally tire me out and you still want to look good and fresh for the rest of the night!
