Hotel Block WDYD?

Our next task is to reserve a hotel block for our guests. Luckily all we have to do is contact the Eagan Visitors Bureau and they'll find a reasonable hotel block for us. But I have no idea how many rooms to estimate we need. I know that we have about 20 people/families that are coming from out of town, but I also know some (or a lot??) of peole will not want to drive home that night as our reception will be ending around 12am.  What did you do? Is there a general rule for this? We're inviting about 160 people.
TIA!

I found when doing our room blocks, they would only let us hold 10-15 to start.  Then as they started to fill up, we increased the number.  I would find out what your hotel generally does.

I went down our list and put a H in our spreadsheet by all the people we thought would stay at the hotel and then called the hotel are blocked that many rooms.  THe hotel will let us add more or reduce later.

<div>Same thing for us - our hotel releases 20 rooms at a time. We have over 100 guests from out of town, so to estimate the number of rooms, I just marked the guest list spreadsheet and counted up all the OOT guests.</div>

We did 25 to start.  We have about 25 OOT 'parties" but I know some will stay with family.  Likewise, some of our friends are using it as an excuse to stay in a hotel for a night.

Thanks for all the input! I think this was another moment of me over-analyzing yet another detail (3 months away, I better get used to it). I guess all we needed to do was call the visitors bureau. She's contacting all of the area hotels with our details and will send me an email with all of the compiled info about accomodations and rates. Pretty sweet if you ask me, another plus for the Eagan Community Center!
