Hey ladies, I had asked a question about dinnerware dish brand recommendations on my local board and I thought that this information was very helpful (especially if you're like me and have no idea where to start with the mass amount of choices on dishes):
"What dinnerware is made of usually determines how easily it will chip. Earthenware chips the easiest and is very porous, so it's not a good idea to soak earthenware dishes in a sink full of water. Usually, earthenware is glazed, and darker in color. The next step up is stoneware, which is fired at a higher temperature than earthenware, making it more durable and chip resistant. Porcelain is even more durable than earthenware or stoneware. Stoneware is usually more creamy in color, whereas porcelain is more of a stark white color. Next in line for durability is fine china, and bone china is the most durable.
We didn't register for fine china, because we will probably never use it, and we just don't have room to store it for future use. We registered for porcelain dinnerware at Bed, Bath, and Beyond, because we want it to last for a long time, and the earthenware we already have chipped after only using it a couple of times.
If you check the descriptions of dinnerware, it should tell you what it is made of, and this should help you determine the quality. I hope this helps!"
