Where did you block hotel rooms?

We are thinking of getting room blocks at 2 hotels, one nicer hotel and one budget hotel so people have the option. We are getting married at Harmony Hall in Middletown (so, Harrisburg hotels). Does the 2 hotels idea seem reasonable? Anyone have experience with local hotels in this area?? I used to work at a hotel yet still have no idea how this works or what I'm getting myself into!

First, ask the proprieter of Harmony Hall if there are hotels with which she specifically has worked or has a working relationship. Sometimes if you name drop at hotels (you call and tell them you would like to speak to someone about negotiating a group block of rooms for a wedding), they will offer you a specific rate.

For our wedding, we booked a group block at the Lodge because, with our reception at the Country Club (owned by HERCO, as is the Lodge), we were offered a great rate. But, the coordinator there also suggested another hotel at which the sales coordinator had gotten married at the CC and therefore was prone to giving fellow CC brides great rates.

We got married at Harmony Hall last year and we blocked room as the Sheraton and the Days Inn. I deifnitely recommend doing two different hotels. They were two difference price points which worked out really well. All our college friends and the younger people stayed at the cheaper hotel and all the "grown ups" stayed at the more expensive one.

Jill should have a list of recommended vendors too that they can give you that has a whole list of hotels.

    HTH. :)

Thanks Colleen! That's exactly what I'm thinking. I do have the list, but it's just.. a list. Not super informative. Do you know if the Sheraton does shuttle service other than just the airport? I guess I could just call them. Haha.

I believe they do a shuttle for a fee. They get a lot of Harmony guests and are used to working with Harmony weddings. We ended up not needing it because we got a good deal from a limo service.

Thanks again Colleen! I ended up booking with the Sheraton and will possibly do their shuttle service once I see how many people are staying there and might use it! I'm just waiting for the contract from Marcia and some information on how many people the shuttle actually holds and if they do airport pickup service for guests! I ended up getting a great rate, I think!
