Firefighter wedding ideas.

Hey Girls!
Just wondering if anyone else out there is planning to have any firefighter themes in their wedding?
I'm marrying a firefighter, and it's pretty much 90% of our life, so I want to include it into the day.
Only in a small amount though, like the cake topper will be him in Bunker Gear, and I'll be dragging him across the cake (so cute)..
Can anyone else help me out? I don't have a theme yet, at all.. But I know I want to do red/black and cream...
I'd love to hear back from other firefighter wifeys! hehe

Try using sparklers somewhere.

I grew up across the street from Cincinnati's chief arson investigator so I know that your FI's life will revolve around that firehouse until he retires. Ignore the snarky comment and know that what your FI does is much appreciated by everyone in your community as is the sacrifices you will be making. I dated a firefighter and it was nerve-racking.

What about having the old school song "Fire" played for the cake cutting? I can't remember who sings it but it was a very popular group!! I would definitely have engagement pictures taken around the firehouse/truck! Are you having a grand entrance? Fire sirens always get people';s attn and I think I would incorporate that or maybe like an "all call" right before you are announced? Firefighters are known for making awesome chili so maybe chili mix/seasoning as a favor?

I am sure there are a lot of ideas out there but those are just a few that come to mind! GL!!

My FI is a FF and I adore him for everything that he is and does that included....but HIS JOB is not 90% of MY life...I think having my own stuff is what keeps our relationship solid, especially since he is gone alot b/w that and the national gaurd....but I think your comment just read wrong for some people....That aside, I wanted to include some FF stuff in our wedding, FI nixed it.... thought it was corny so here are some of the ideas I had thought of
For table numbers I was going to do station house number from his dept, then on the escort cards I was going to use these envelope seals I found with the maltese cross on them...I don't have the website anymore but google should do the trick....
A FF theme groom's cake...which my FI may still get and just have to be surprised.
I've seen some FF weddings where the FF stuff just took over....and it can get kinda intense, but I've seen turnout boots with flowers stuck in them for centerpieces, or the helmets used in the same manner...also seen a boot used in place of a card box....firetrcuk as the couple's ascort away rfom the wedding if his dept can do that....our venues too far out of any of his dept's first dues for that.

My Mans a fireman and I understand what you mean when you asy that its 90% of your life. Its HUUUGE for the women to understand what they do, if you cant or dont have that understanding you will never get it. I spent some time in the fire service myself before our son was born. and i believe that it plays a big part in my understanding of the service and what they do and that sometimes, as unfortanate as it is, it comes before family sometimes. but we know that going into a marriage with them and they know that going into the field.

firefighters have one of the highest divorce rates in the country. it isnt easy being the other half, but again you have GOT to understand it, and not try to step inbetween them and thier job. if your having a family barbque and beep beep beep beep, they gotta go. and its OKAY, so yes i agree there was no need to be disrespectful.
as far as ideas go sounds like youve got alot of advice as it is, and some of the ideas i had are already here. altho it told me there were 0 replies! haha. you could do fire related cookes as favors. have some dalmations, some trucks, some hoses. is he just a Ft fireman or EMT as well? any sort of engineer for any of the trucks? def incorporate the firemans cross maybe the prayer on one side of the card u may attatch to the favors? you could have a fireman runnin hose to the top of the cake. if its outdoor have people light the sparklers on your way back down the isle as husband wife.

This is just not for me, that's all I was saying. I did not mean to offend but rather point out something I thought was far from my realm of norm. This is an international board and that is how we interact- by sharing life views. In fact, I am still in awe of it as a completely submissive lifestyle choice.

But, sadly, the overreactions to the comment on here just proved how vehemently people completely have to explain their life choices. It is a bit disturbing. Now, I am starting to wonder about the healthy attitude about having a life wrapped up in their husbands. I was not on this train before, but now this has been explained to me as over the top. If you think this is the reason your marriage is going to work, I worry. I am not saying it is not and I wish the best. I guess I am just very taken aback by the over zealous nature of defending something that denies the individual so much in what is very much a two tiered venture - marriage. I guess the bottom line is I feel it is inappropriate for the theme of a wedding to be "husband's life."

I'm jumping on this boat way late apparently, but I think having a couple things FF themed is cool, he is a part of the wedding too and they are both proud of his profession and his service to his community.
But I have to also give my 2 cents on the whole profession. My dad was a FF for 30 years, capt for 20. I know that many set this type of job on a pedestal, but honestly, in 30 years he never was even injured, not even an ember ever burnt him. I never remember worrying about him or my mom worrying either. It was just a job to him. (Also, my dad's FF were all ugly and fat). Just adding a different perspective...

I think it's sad that you are so insecure that you had to trash someone elses wedding ideas. I want to have a firefighter reception as well...I think my fiance and every firefighter is a hero...his job is not my life...but it's because of his job that some people still have a life!

The theme of the wedding wasn't her husbands life and it's not mine. The theme of the wedding is "getting married", I'm highlighting my fiances job because it affects OUR life together SO much. I truly feel bad for you because you clearly don't know what love is if you can't imagine honoring your husbands career and celebrating a choice he made that affects your marriage and future family.

My future husband is a firefighter/paramedic and i respect him SO much! there is no way i could do what he does for even an hour!.. and he does it 48 hours straight! it has to be a bug part of your life, how can it not be?

anyways, i'm really glad i found this post b/c i love the idea of using a helmet for center pieces

MeaghanandMicha... Who the eff are you to criticize this woman's life? What do you know? Being a firefighter is not the same thing as being a general manager (as my fiance is). Why are you making her post about you?

To follow your screwed up reasoning: Why is your guy's name in YOUR screen name? Do you even know your own name? Why don't you be an individual instead of identifying yourself by your fiance? I'm pretty sure I know everything about you because I'm sitting behind a computer and read something that you wrote online.

Sorry for my tangent, herecomesthebride. First, I respect what your FH does. Last year my neighbor's condo caught on fire and the firefighters used a ladder to get up to the roof of the 3rd story, used a chainsaw to get into the unit, and put the fire out before it spread. So yeah, the love of your life risking his life for your community probably takes up a big part of your day.

I think it would be really cool if you had a photo booth with FF themed props. You could have FF hats, boots, the pants with the suspenders. For favors you could give out FF calendars. I've had a few of those in the past... Firefighters are hot.

I am well aware that this post originated in 2010 so it may sound absurd to keep the comments going but I do have a few things that I would like to say after reading it. For starters I am getting married to a firefighter this October so I click on this post for ideas the first thing I read was that someone wanted to incorporate the fire theme into their wedding b/c her husband’s career is 90% of their life. I can very much so relate to that…he works 24 hours on and 48 hours off so on a DAILY basis our lives and schedules revolve around that. When I signed up for this I was fully aware of and I would never pick anything different! <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

It was the most disrespectful, demeaning, and cold hearted thing I’ve ever read when Meganandmicheal said “nothing like sending your husband to work with all his" hot friends" each morning while saying silent prayer that he comes homes safe and alive the next day....but I guess it’s a tradeoff”. For starters the originator of this post did not ask for your opinions on who she is marrying or your thoughts on the percentages of how she chooses to spend her lifestyle. Secondly, when he walks out the door I give him a kiss and think to myself how proud I am of him…when I turn on the TV and see that he and his crew are battling a blazing fire on a 6 story building in the middle of a down pour is when I pray for a safe return and get with the other fire wives whose lives are also 90% consumes with their husbands career. I don’t care what you have to say in response to this; I see you have posted quite a bit so clearly we see what the biggest percentage of your time is spent doing.

Since the post was created in 2010 I am sure that you are married by now and I bet it was beautiful as you seem like a very dedicated fire wife. For those who are searching for ideas here’s some of mine:

We are having our bartender make a firemen’s brew to drink during cocktail hour, on our invitations we asked that all firemen bring their helmets so they can form an arch over the doorway when we walk out, and I am also do small detail stuff like putting the Maltese cross on our koozies, using his fire boots for our card holder, and placing a fire hydrant outside the main entry door with a sign that says our last name. Good luck to all fire brides; I love seeing posts and pictures about how people decided to incorporate this theme.
