new here- help please:)

Hey y'all! I am new to The Knot and newely engaged and just had a few questions!

I live in Raleigh,NC and I am looking for a venue that will allow outside catering and something inexpensive. Does anyone have any experience with a venue that the loved that allows this?

I was also wondering what kind of "wedding book" for those of you who didn't or don't have a Wedding Coordinater. I have seen lots of "wedding planning" books and didn't know what you would suggest.

Thank You!

For the wedding book, I would just go to Barnes and Noble and look through them and look online at Amazon.com. They are all pretty similar, so it's really whichever one you like the best.

    As for venues...

    The Stockroom

    Marbles Kids Museum:

City Market also has a neat event space:

There are a ton of Raleigh venues.  A Google search will probably overwhelm you.  PP mentioned a couple good ones.

As far as a wedding book, when we went to insure my ring at State Farm they gave me a huge wedding book.  It was actually pretty good.  If you go with them for ring insurance you should ask about it.

About how many guests do you think you'll have? That will be important when looking for a venue. Also do you want to have your wedding specifically in Raleigh or are you open to surrounding towns?

If you're looking too keep costs down in Raleigh you might want to look on www.raleighnc.gov/ at the local community center and historic park rentals. Mordecai is my favorite; it even has its own little church. You'll probably need to rent a tent for some of the spaces but parks are nice wedding backdrops. I looked into community rental spaces in Cary and Holly Springs as well. Bass Lake in Holly Springs is nice. The downtown museums will probably run you a little more than the parks but they are nice however they will give you a list of caterers you have to choose from. I, of course, ended up going over budget for our venue but it was a mutual decision so that's got to count for something.

Just our immedate family is about 93 (although some of them live in Alabama) So i am assuming it would be 150-175.

Thanks for all of the links for venues- I will check them out today! My favorite resturant is at City Market and I was actually there last week and saw the open space set up for a wedding and I was wondering how to contact them- thanks!

I am open to surrounding areas, we are very southern traditional but would love something at an old house, barn, or outside.

    Thank You!

For outside, check out Montague Pond.  It's beautiful and very inexpensive to rent.  We had our rehearsal dinner there and everyone loved it.

I'm getting married at Gregory Vineyards in Angier, NC but it's really just a mile or so from McGee's Crossroads off of i40

If you want an old house, I highly encourage you to check out Haywood Hall. We loved it, but it just wasn't large enough for us (we're having around 200 guests).

Ditto Haywood Hall!  A friend of mine was married there last year and it was a fantastic venue!  They had a cocktail hour in the a courtyard area, a tent set up on the grounds to accomodate all the guests, the cake cutting was in a seperate little gazebo area and she did her getaway on one of those little rickshaw/bicycles.  It was really cute!
