Lunch and Question

Hey Ladies!

I am so out of whack this week.  All day yesterday I thought it was Wednesday and I had to keep reminding myself it was Tuesday, now I almost totally forgot today is actually Wednesday.  So sorry I'm running behind...again.  LOL!

What's for lunch today?  I had leftover turkey meatloaf and a baked potato.

I've been focused on my chairs, tables, and dance floor rentals and I'm taken aback at how much it costs.  I mean, I know wedding stuff is expensive, but it seems totally outrageous to me.  It's $900 for 100 chairs, 4 tables, and a dance floor including delivery/pickup and set-up!  Anyone else have a moment like this?  What was the one thing that was way more expensive than you would have ever guessed?

  • i had a salad with asian dressing for lunch, plus some of my leftover risotto that i made for mother's day brunch.

i had no idea that RENTING a tux was so expensive! I mean, even after the $40 off coupon, they are like $150. i can't imagine, $200 just to RENT it? you don't even get to keep it! I mean, you can buy a suit for less than that, and isn't a tux just a really fancy suit? I mean, it's all the same stuff.
    Happily married since 9/1/2012!

  • Funny, I had a salad with Asian Ginger dressing! :)

Ther ceremony has surprised me with how expensive it it. You always hear that the reception is ridiculously expensive, but I had no idea that there would be fees for the church, the cantor, the organist, the unity candle holder, the room to prep in, etc., etc., etc.
  • I had a bowl of cereal and a jello pudding for lunch today.

I can't believe how expensive linen rentals are.  We're paying almost $600 for 19 floor length tablecloths, a floor length satin sweetheart tablecloth, embroidered overlay for the sweetheart table and 175 napkins.  And they were actually cheaper to rent than they would be to purchase online (even if I sold them to someone else for half of what I paid for them).  It's unbelievable.  I'm going to start telling people I'm planning something other than a wedding, maybe things will be cheaper then.

Yikes!  We have yet to do this part.  That is totally ridiculous!!  You know they are making a ton of money on those things.  We are just going to buy FI a suit, I think.  At least, he will get more than one use out of it.  My FMIL has already said she will buy it for him.  But we were talking about it on Sunday and she doesn't want to go get his suit until August.  I'm trying really hard to not freak out about waiting so late to get it...

Wow!!  That is expensive.  I'm sure you have already researched, but Linens n things has really inexpensive linens to purchase.  Did you check them out?  I am ordering the linen-like table cloths and napkins that way we can just pick everything up and throw it away.  I'm not about to spend half the night cleaning.

Totally agree with this.  Idk why but I really thought it was only $90-100.  For this reason we nixed my brothers/ushers having to get tuxes too and to just wear a black suit.  I go for my first fitting Memorial day weekend (a little early but need to get a BM dress altered for my brother's wedding in July so doing it all at once) and I've been holding my breath on the cost of that so I'm <em>hoping</em> that one doesn't surprise me!

Just a pb sandwich on wheat, apple, carrots, and catelope for lunch for me today!

I've actually read that you can get better deals if you just say it's for a family party or something along those lines. Plus, it isn't really lying since it is just  a party after the ceremony anyway! You may even call the rental company and ask for prices for just a party, but not tell them who you are. See if they are cheaper. If they are, insist on that price if you're already locked in...

I am really lucky and got to have lunch with my FI today. :) We went to the coney place and talked about this house in Washington we found this morning.

The sticker shock for me was food. I'm still trying to find a cheaper alternative. There is no way food is going to cost more than anything else! Most quotes I've gotten have been over $5,000! The cheapest I got was for $3,500 and that was just for limited hors d'oeuvre!!
  • Lunch is a shake.

Hahaha call me crazy but I think I have been blown away by the cost of ALL of it. I mean I knew it wouldn't be cheap but I figured since we aren't having a big to do that it wouldn't be that bad. Boy was I wrong!  Totally agree though, linens have blown me away!!!!
  • I had a caesar salad for lunch today. Lotta salad people on here!

The thing that shocked me the most so far has been the veil. Mine was $200 after tax, and there were more pricey ones than that! Its a darn piece of mesh attached to a comb, what is so expensive about this!!?? I really wasn't going to have one, but I kinda fell in love with it and felt more like a bride with it so i bought it.

Lunch was an egg salad sandwich and a handful of chips.

The biggest sticker shock was also the cost of the caterer!! I think it's horrible how much they jack the price of things up, just because you say the word "wedding"!

For those of you who haven't dealt with tuxes yet....  if you are going to Men's warehouse, look into buying one.   They often have tuxes on clearance.  We just got my fiance's, and the jacket was on clearance for $35.00 and the pants for $69.00.  The whole tux, including, the shirt and all of the alterations was $220.00.   I know its a little more than renting, but it's yours to keep... and it was a Jones NY.  A really nice, classic, quality tux.
  • i had some quinoa and veggies, pretty sure ill be snacking all day since im home

So shocked how much those pretty hanging lights cost. To do string lights over the dinner area would be $600!!! I was like uh I dont have an extra $600 to pull out of my butt to pay for that, sooo i guess were not having string lights :(

  • What's sad is that the actual meal per person at our wedding is about $32... but because we have to rent all the tables, chairs, linens, cutlery, plates, glasses, and the kitchen sink (as well as 13% tax, 12% commission fee and some other gratuity tax), it's costing us about $127/person. Awesome eh?
(We are having 150 for dinner... so do the math :P)

  • Lunch was a lean cuisine pizza and cliff granola bar.

I agree that probably what surprised me most was the price of catering. Granted, I knew that we were going with an expensive restaurant, but I guess I hadn't prepared for all the extra charges (tax, rentals, etc)
  • Tim Horton's chicken noodle soup.... Mmmmm

The linens got me more than anything! I wanted to change it up from the provided white table clothes, but now we're sticking with that because I can't justify the cost!
  • I had a half turkey sandwich and a salad for lunch.  Nothing special.  We're in dire need of going to the grocery store!

I had major sticker shock when ordering invites.  I had an Etsy seller design them and had them printed through cards and pockets.  Whoa Money!  I had no idea paper and printing would be so expensive!  I could have saved money if I had printed and cut them myself but I know I just won't have the time to do that AND the other DIY projects that are going on.  I am assembling them myself so they weren't as expensive as they could be!

    Lunch was a shake.

I'm with the PP that said they had sticker shock about everything.  I feel like I'm a very low maintenance person with a very small group of friends.  How we're having a wedding with a guest list approaching 200 that will cost about what TK says is 'average' (shockingly high to me) is a bit of a mystery to me.  It adds up!  At least we're doing it in MI where tax is 6% vs. Chicago where it's 10%.  4% extra on top of A LOT is way too much.
  • I had cereal and an apple (I'm a cereal at lunch diet)

I have sticker shock at about every step.  The limo really surprised me and so did the florist, but most recently it was alterations.  I'm actually going to a different seamstress in hopes that the first woman was actually overpriced.

I had a slice of pizza at noon and now cheese its as a snack. Gosh that's horrible. The worst part is I have a salad in the frig and I'm just too lazy and don't want to eat it.

As for expensive costs, the one that drives me crazy is the chair covers. My place is totally cheap except for the chair covers and they won't allow me to bring another vendor in. :( It's $4 for the chair cover and sash and I have 150 people attending, plus a $50 set up fee. So it's $650 for freaking chair covers!

For those of you looking into renting a suit/tux I recommend purchasing one. Our guys are wearing suits. We went to a place by our house called 3 day suit broker. The guys are getting a jacket, vest, pants, tie, and shirt. Two whole suit packages comes out to $299 so its $150 per guy and they get to keep everything. We surveyed the guys and only my FI had a suit, they rest don't own one so it's perfect.

</div><div>Looking at the photos in my phone I think the suit is Vitarelli Italy and it comes in black or grey. Most of their suits are all all double deals. But they do have designer ones there like Marc Jacobs and other things for a little bit more. No, we didn't get a wedding discount, that's just their normal deal. I think we are getting 4 packages (8 suits) total.</div><div>
