Macys - beware!

I am SO pissed at Macys right now and would like to recommend that you NOT register there.  There have been hassles, complications, problems and frustrations at every step of the way.  I would summarize by saying that their technology is outdated, they are understaffed and the employees are not properly trained to deal with any transaction more complicated than buy and pay.

Furthermore, we just got a collection notice in the mail on Friday.  This came as a huge shock since we have never recieved a BILL.  So, now I am going to have to spend who-knows-how-long trying to repair this blemish on my credit history.  What a way to start our new life together - with an undeserved stain on our lifelong credit history.

Despite the fact that I have about $300 in rewards right now, i never plan to step foot in a Macys again!

Agree, I have been to several Macy's in both MA and RI with never a problem. Sorry you had to go thru that though.
  • I'll take your rewards if you don't want to shop there anymore. I love Macys, and I loved our registry there.

  • Sorry you are having problems but we loved our Macy's registry.  Never had any problems.
  • I am glad to hear that you all had better experiences than I did.  I can tell you that my negative experiences span three different stores in the DC region.  The clerks have been nice but with the exception of one highly competant department manager, no one has had the range of knowledge to deal with the more complicated registry situations that seemed to come up when i was in the store.  Not getting the bill was just the icing on the cake.
  • Wheaton? That store sucks. My experience with Macy's is that the ones that used to be Hecht's or whatever and were bought out are the ones that suck the most.

  • There are a few out by me...never had issues w/ my local one. But one a little closer to the city always looks like a tornado went through it. I don't want to have to sort through clothes on the floor to find what I need. So I don't shop there.

I'm glad your issues are getting worked out!

  • I have a seasonal job at Macy's - well I was hired for seasonal and they've asked me to stay on as permanent part-time.

I can't even tell you how hard it is to keep our department picked up. I am absolutely apalled at how people behave in stores.  The messes left in dressing rooms, the messes left on the display floor. People come and just throw things everywhere and I am not kidding.  I work in women's coats. More than once I have had women (will either be mother/daughter or a couple of friends) come in and try on 40-60 coats between them. They will put on a coat and throw it on top of a rack and leave it. I am NOT exaggerating the 40-60 count between the 2 of them.  We find coats all over our department, not even near the rack they came off of. We find stuff from every other department in the store in the middle of our coats.  A box of cups, clothing from every department, shoes, gloves, jewelry, purses, scarves  - anything & everything.  And our coats get returned to us by every other department.

The way people behave is just unbelievable to me. There is NO respect. If everyone at least re-hung the clothing they try on and put in on a "rail" (rack) near the dressing room or at least on the hangers in the dressing rooms it would cut down on the need for so many employees which in turn would cut the cost of clothing. When I was a kid you not only put your stuff back on hangers but you RETURNED it to the rack you got it off of.

Why was I hired? Coat vendors actually pay my salary. The clerks are too busy during Christmas to be able to keep the area cleaned up. I literally bust my rear-end every time I work putting coats back where they belong, hanging up & picking up.

I'm sorry this is so long but I am really disugsted by the messes people leave. I used to wonder why the Macy's I frequent most often looked like a tornado went through it - now I know.  The staff work and they work hard. We clean our dressing rooms about every 15 minutes, at the most 30 minutes - and there is ALWAYS stuff to put back.

People are slobs and unbelievably disgusting.  Not everyone is that way but unfortunately the majority of those shopping today are.
  • Skippy - I'm sorry to hear that but what does that have to do with the original post?  And quite frankly, you must have known what you were getting into when you took a job doing retail at Macys.  I love Macys and always pick up our mess and see what other people do, but it's no secret how others' behave while they're in that store.  Now if you were in Barney's or a similar store, then you could be surprised.

  • In response to the OP - I'm glad the issues were solved, although they should have been taken care of without the FB page.  We feel very lucky that we have yet to have an issue with our Macys registry.

  • What does your Macy's registry have to do with a credit dispute with them?

This.  I had a fabulous experience at Macy's when I registered.  I found the associates so helpful and patient.  I would have totally recommended registering at Macy's.
  • i don't really know what the place looking like a tornado has to do with OP's post. FWIW, I'm sure a lot of us have worked in clothing retail and had similar situations. I've worked at Ann Taylor and Lacoste when I was a teenager and it was the same idea. People just dropping their stuff whereever, customers actually throwing clothing at you when they were done. And of course, many ppl seem to forget that although you're in customer service, you're not a servant. But so what? The rude ppl will always be that way and the nice ones will always be nice. Has that really changed so much after time?

In response to OP, so glad you got everything worked out! We're registered at Macy's too...
  • I am not only a recent bride but also a Gift Registry consultant at Macy's and I am so sorry that you had such a bad experience with us!  It is true that all store's are different, and at my store we try our best to make every bride's registry experience outstanding.  Best Wishes to you, and I'm glad that you got everything straigtened out!
