pre cana

does anyone know if there is a certain time we should have it done by? Is a month before the wedding too close? Thanks :)

It is not too close, but I would recommend trying to do it a little sooner. Beware of the parenting lady, so was HORRIBLE!

DH and I had to go to the one two weeks before our wedding and I thought it was cutting it way too close, for my comfort anyway. Everything worked out well but still. I started trying to register around Christmas 08 but with the holiday nobody ever called me back. By the time I got hold of somebody it was late February so it was too late to register for the March class and the April class was already full. That left us the first weekend in May and our wedding was the third weekend. For some reason the county required the priest at my home church (St Luke's Episcopal) to issue the certificate saying we'd completed our premarriage prep so that was a bit of a headache. If you can go earlier than a month before I would, just to save yourself any stress but if it's not possible a month is fine.

The certificate comes in handy they supposedly give you $$ off your license and there is no waiting period.

I think a month before is cutting it too close unless that is absolutely the only time you can do it.  Which parish are you in? Do you have to do the engaged encounter retreat or just the saturday session?  Did you do the foccus test yet?  We had originally signed up last may for the engaged encounter retreat in August but it got cancelled and we couldn't sign up for another one unitl Feb.  Our preist only allows the retreat, no substitutions.  So if your retreat weekend either fills up or gets cancelled, you are screwed.  If I were you, I would sign up for the soonest possible retreat that I could. Also, Get started on the Foccus test right away because you have to complete that and then be assigned a couple and meet with them before the retreat.  After we completed the test, it took them about six weeks to assign us a couple and then we were both busy and it took another six weeks after that before we could find a time to meet with that couple.  If you have more questions, you can post them here but you might also find more answers on the Catholic board.  Look under cultural wedding boards on the left to find it.
