Awful Experience at David's Bridal Danvers

I had a 2:00 appointment to look at wedding gowns at David's in Danvers yesterday. I went with just my mom, and we got there about 20 minutes early. They told us to just look around until our appointment time. I didn't mind since we were early. At 2:00 they called us over to the check in desk. Instead of checking us in, the lady started telling us how David's is now going to be a "full service wedding destination" and will offer photography and videography. I told her I had already hired my photographer and videographer and was just looking at dresses. She said "Well who is your photographer?" I told her. She said "Never heard of him, and I promise I can give you what he's giving you for half the price. Did you pay your deposit? Call him right now and cancel it." She was so pushy and made me so uncomfortable. I was ready to walk out then, but I told her firmly I was there to look at dresses and nothing else.

Well, then she couldn't find a consultant. There was one bride, one mother of the bride, and two prom girls there and about six employees standing around, but apparently no one to help me. Finally, the consultant helping the other bride agreed to help me. It's 2:30 now. Half an hour into my appointment and I haven't even been in a fitting room.

I had six dresses I had picked out, and I showed them to the consultant. She took them and went to go pull them. She came back with three completely different dresses. When I asked what they were she said "They're from the clearance rack so they're cheap." I told her I wasn't really concerned with price at that point. I wanted to try on what I had picked. She said okay and left. She came back 15 minutes later with three different dresses. Again, not one of the ones I had picked. Three more off the clearance rack. I tried on all six clearance dresses and didn't like them. Again I asked for any of the six I had picked out. The consultant said "Okay I'll go get one of them." 20 minutes later, nothing. I poked my head out and she was talking to a bunch of other consultants by the registers. It was almost 4:00 by this point. I put on my regular clothes and walked out. Almost two hours and I never tried on a single dress I went in there to try.

Re: Awful Experience at David's Bridal Danvers

  • I went to David's Bridal to get an idea of what kind of dress I liked. I didn't like anything I tried on, they were made cheaply. I ended up going to a dress shop in Plymouth center. It's called Maria's of Italy. Luigi and Stacy were very helpful. I ended up getting a beautiful gown for (better quailty) the same money I would have spent at DB. They also have a discount section too. Definatly worth looking into. Good luck
  • Not to completely bash David's Bridal because I know that some people have had great experiences but I had a horrific experience at the one in Dedham! It went very similar to yours.. showed up for my appointment (we were doing bridesmaids dresses) and they were so busy that our consultant was also helping 5 other brides at the same time. All of my girls (luckily there are only 3 of them) had to share one dressing room and my mom and I were the ones picking out the dresses. The consultant showed us to the dressing room and we never saw her after that. We were left to our own devices. It was so chaotic in there and the sales associates were not professional at all. I get the sense that DB is all about quantity, not quality. They are just trying to sell dresses and "make their numbers" versus caring about what the bride wants and making her shopping experience a pleasant one.

I'm sorry to hear that your dress shoping experience was not what you thought. I would suggest finding a smaller bridal boutique to shop at. While some can be expensive, most are really great and work within your wants / needs / budget. I am not familiar wth the Danvers area at all but I bought my dress at Manhattan Bridals in Dedham. We ended up getting the BM's dresses there are well because they were so pleasant to work with and the experience was so great! Good luck in your dress search!!

  • Bella Sera is beautiful and I had a great experience there! Good luck!
  • Oh gosh, I'm so sorry to hear about this!

I actually ended up getting my dress at David's of Danvers, but I too found them to be very hit or miss.  My experience was not representative of others that I heard of etc.

Hoping Bella Sera is a wonderful experience!   They have a great reputation.
  • Bella Sera is AWESOME! Heidi and Lisa are really wonderful. I had a great experience there from beginnig to end. I actually miss going there and seeing them lol
    Good luck!
  • I'm so sorry to hear about your experience.  I had an experience like that at Vows in Watertown so I know how you feel.  I had an appointment last Friday at David's in Dedham and I was pleasantly surprised!  I had an amazing experience.  When I got there, they already had all of the dresses I had "favorited" on their website ready for me to try.  The consultant let me look for anything else I wanted.  She was very lovely and sweet, gave her opinions when I asked in a very respectful way.  I was so overwhelmed and couldn't decide and asked if I could take a break.  She kept the few dresses that I was deciding between in my dressing room while I went for a bite to eat.  When I came back, she immediately started helping me for Round 2.  My plan was to go back and decide between the 2 I had left.  I ended up pulling one more from the rack and as it turns out, that was the dress I picked.  I highly recommend Magdelena from the Dedham store.  Ashley, who I think is a manager, kept coming by to check on me and also helped with the process because she could tell how overwhelmed I was.  My mom was taking lots of pictures throughout the appointment and she even took some pictures so my parents could both be in them with me.  I am going to take my bridesmaids there, but am requesting an appointment with either Magdelena or Ashley.  (We even joked that I asked them to both be in my bridal party!)  I know it's hit or miss, but don't give up and if you still need a dress, request one of those two consultants in the Dedham store!

  • The worst problem that I had with Davids is that they sold my phone # to other vendors, so I will sometimes get 4-5 calls a day from companies.  Very frustrating!
  • The only complaint i had about the David's Bridal in Dedham was that they never called me when my dress arrived. I found out through the customer service call from a random person who wanted to know if I needed any other addional appointments, When I said no, I just wanted to know when my dress would arrive, she said it had arrived a week ago...but i never got a call or email. When i went to go pick up the dress, I mentioned this to the girl at the cashier's counter and she was condescending and treated me like I was a kid. Needless to say I will be getting my dress altered at the one in Danvers....hopefully that is a better experience. My dress IS beautiful though and I absolutely love it :)

  • That's awful. I'm getting my dress from David's Bridal in N Dartmouth. Laura was so nice and helpful and she wasn't pushy at all. I've been back 4 times for bridesmaids dresses and so on. I did have a bad experience with Isabella's in Taunton. The owner was rude and bashed all the other bridal shops and barely had anything to fit me. I'm size 16 and she kept trying to get me to try on size 6's which is every plus size girls worst nightmare. That's why I ended up at David's Bridal. They were so much nicer and more excepting.

  • I just went to David's Bridal in North Attleboro on a Tuesday night and had a very pleasant experience. My consultant was Erin. She pulled out the dresses that I had marked on the DB website and also added some that she thought might look good on me, always respecting my budget. She did not once try to make me buy something, and even when I was debating if I should buy the dress I really liked she didn't push me (that was my very first visit to a bridal store and I actually didn't plan on buying anything just yet). Erin was also honest in her advice if a certain dress was for me or not, and what was wrong/good about it.  Erin spent two hours mostly with me alone, and helped me put on more than a dozen dresses without becoming impatient.
However, other employees and the store owner passed me while I was trying on dresses, and went oooooh, so pretty on dresses that clearly were not looking pretty on me. One kept coming back to try to get me to make an appointment for a photography consultation, which was a little annoying but understandable, since she's also just trying to earn money.

In the end I did buy the dress I really liked because it does look very pretty on me, imho ;), and it was at a super bargain. I bought the dress, a bra, the underskirt, and a longsleeve jacket all together for about 75% of the budget I had decided on for my dress alone. And the dress does not look cheap, nor does it feel cheap. I am very happy with my decision.

So, if you try the N.Attleboro store, go on a weekday and ask for Erin. Ignore the other women.
