October 2012 Weddings

would this work?

I know there is a sticky sbout timelines but I have a specific question...

Here is my draft for the reception:

6:00 guests arrive
6:25 guests asked to be seated (everyone should be seated by then)
6:30 announcement of b&g
6:35 dinner served
7:30 cake cutting (may not even have cake)
8:00 first dance
10:00 we leave

does this seem alright? am i giginv too much time for certain things?

Re: would this work?

  • Are you doing a cocktail half hour at first or what are the guests going to do between 6-6:30?

  • If you don't have cake, will dancing start earlier (I assume it will)?  Also, what PP said about cocktail hour.

    Otherwise, looks sharp!

  • no, we are not doing a cocktail hour.  i realize that is what is supposed to happen but it's not common in my area.   the invites said reception starts at 6 with dinner served at 6:30.

if there is no cake we will start dancing sooner.
  • Typically, I think the B&G have their first dance and that signals to the guests that the dance floor is now open for everyone.  If you don't have a cake, I would move your first dance up to 7:30 to open up the dance floor.

If you're not doing a cocktail hour, what are your guests that show up at 6 supposed to do until you and your FI are announced?

when this happens at weddings here, people mingle, walk around the venue and look at the decor, talk to people they know, meet people they don't...its all very relaxed and fun.

<div>Ok, as long as people know what to do.  Would people be able to get a drink (not necessarily alcoholic)?  If I'm walking around or talking to people, I'd at least want a glass of water (maybe a pop), especially if I'm just coming from a ceremony and haven't had anything to drink ilately. </div>

I agree with this.  Talk to your venue about having a water station or something.  Maybe you could push up your entrance??

  • yeah, water will be at the tables.
  • So the guests will go to their table, grab their water glass, then walk around?  I still don't like the gap, but to each their own.
