Show Me Your TIMELINES

I've been trying to figure out a timeline for the wedding day and I don't know exactly when to do what during what time. We have Mike L Photography for 8 hours and I have a few things I want them to shoot for sure - like our first dance & cake cutting, so I was thinking of doing those earlier in the night.

Can any of you guys share your time lines for me? I'm lost.

Thanks but none of those help me, I'm looking for more of an hour by hour timeline, if anyone has one. :)

Like, in what order they did cake cutting, speeches, etc.

Mine is in my bio, but I don't think I designated times for cake cutting, speeches, etc.

Oh, I didn't designate my cake cutting time. We'll do that when we feel about it, but I did have an hour by hour getting ready and event timeline in two of those links. Can't help with something as specific as toasts. That will happen when it happens.

Yah, the speeches I guess would be more implusive.

I'm just thinking....we arrive at our reception at 7:15 and we'll have Mike L Photography there until about 9pm. Somewhere in that hour and 45 minutes, we want to do our first dance and cut the cake, with enough time left over for them to get a few random photos of all our guests and stuff.

So I was thinking....

7:15 - arrive at reception
7:30 - first dance
7:30-8:30 mingle with guests/eat our appies/etc
8:30ish - first dance

Do you think that'd work? Or do you think doing our first dance should be left for later?

Maybe I'm over thinking all of this.

This is what I posted in one of the links above. I guess I did think about a cake cutting.

Ceremony: 5-5:30
Cocktail hour: 5:30-6:30
Dinner: 6:30-7:30
Dancing: 7:30-10:30
Afterparty: 10:30-god knows when

And we are planning to do a grand entrance (during the cocktail hour), cake cutting at 8, speeches (should anyone want to give them) and 3 dances but those will come at the end of the dinner hour while the pianist is still there. I was concerned with 3 hours not being enough.

Our dances are coming around 7:15 so that we can take advantage of the pianist. When are people eating diinner?

Masterpiece Cuisine was going to arrive at 7:30 for everything to be served at 8pm, but now I'm contemplating having them come earlier, so that they can start munching on things while we get our photos taken. Our ceremony is at 4:30, which is pretty much the start of dinner time, and I think if we dont' serve them till 8, they'll be hungry (and already really drunk).

Yeah, you can't have people milling about at your reception from 5-8 with no food. I'd leave and go eat dinner, honestly.

I don't think it's awful if there's a one-two hour gap between ceremony end and reception, but I do think if that's the case you should probably be serving dinner soon after you arrive or guests will go hungry.

This is how we see our timeline currently:

2:00 - ceremony
2:30 - ceremony ends
2:30 ~ 3:00 - mingle/pictures with guests
3:00 ~ 4:15 - guests free to explore or go back to their rooms until transportation arrives to take them to the reception venue while 2-3 family members go to the reception site with day of WC and make sure everything's OK and we have our wedding photoshoot just around the corner (note: our guests hotels are right by the ceremony venue; would not do this if they were further away)
5:00 ~ 7:00 - dinner reception (dinner, any short speeches, mechanical bull riding, games)
7:00 ~ 8:00 - transportation takes guests back to their hotels
8:00 ~ 10:00 - DDB photo op strip tour for those who are game

It is awful if this is at dinner time. I guarantee you that my mom will eat at noon and if she doesn't get to eat again until 8 and has been drinking? Watch out. Don't be afraid of the bull; be afraid of mama. And the raging apple doesn't fall far from the tree. I couldn't go from noonish until 8 without dinner without turning into low blood sugar bitch.

Ah, what I mean is... Her ceremony will end by 5:00 p.m. right? So with 1-2 hours dinner should start between 6:00-7:00 p.m. Preferably earlier if there are no cocktails. I agree that 8:00 p.m. start is way too long. By then people will have drank too much on an empty stomach and (if it were my FI) get sick and not be able to enjoy much.

FI and I aren't much of dancers so we figured this was the next best thing, lol. If anything it should make for some great photo OPs! I'm kind of taking a chance on the venue, though, and will definitely review afterwards. XD;;
