DIY Woah Moment

Ok, so a post on the DW board got me to thinking about my DIY projects... so I went on my planning bio and made a complete list of everything DIY so far (clicky), including what is started/in the process/completed and just had the 'woah look at all I'm doing myself' moment...
Anyone hit the point of being momentarily overwhelmed recently? Lol

Re: DIY Woah Moment

  • I have. I mean, I still have to book to DJ, talk to the caterer, talk to the baker, find a seamstress, get the work done on my dress, hair trials, make up trials, build the cake stand, assemble all the place card holders, finish the guest book, start the yarn chandeliers... the list goes on and on... =/
  • I have a lot done, I mean I can see that just looking at my DIY list, but it still seems like SO MUCH to do.... Sometimes I wonder if I'm DIY'ing too much lol
  • Me too. I stopped for a while as they recommend to take a break. Then breathe and take one step at a time. It's hard to relax.
  • I think I took enough of a break end of Dec lol time to get back into doing all this DIY stuff or I'll never make a dent in this list!
Anyone else doing a heavily DIY wedding like I am?
  • ladies we still have 8 months. Do one task a month and you'll be good.

<div>gosh if I did one task a month I wouldn't be ready! and I have everything booked!</div><div>I tend to take on more than I should but that's me... and I want it all to be just perfect. I'm not freaking out but I am starting to see how quickly time is flying and how long all my DYI projects will take. </div>

  • The only thing we've DIYed so far is the STDs, and that was stressful enough (for FI anyway cuz he's the one that designed them). I'm not a DIY person normally, but i'm open to it.

  • That sure was some list! I would strongly urge you to create a calendar schedule. I mean, it's long but we do have 8 months. That really is plenty of time. But a schedule!

</div><div>This is totally me.  FI was getting annoyed with me last night because I have a few DIY plans (card table decorations: poms, card holders, cards, table theme pieces) and I wont "deligate" anything.  I hate asking for help and for some reason think I can do everything on my own.  Not good.  For example, I mentioned in another thread that it is time to send out STDs and we need to address the envelopes.  His sister has awesome handwriting and yet I'm insistant on doing these.  I'm going to have to break down and ask her to do the invites.  :(</div>
  • i started thinking that the other day when i started really thinking about my centerpieces. i want to DIY them, but then i realize that i will probably be making 60 lace candle holders (3 x 20 tables), 20 table runners, painting 20 table numbers, possibly making 60 candlestick holders, spray painting 20 birdcages...and that's just the centerpiece work. that doesn't include my shoes or decor for the other tables or programs or escort cards, etc. etc.

i just need to buckle down and get to work.

I think this is a great idea. Not sure about you, but when I can see it all laid out how it will happen, I automatically feel better.

  • If I just tackled one thing a month that wouldn't even make a dent in the list I put up! lol I have a calendar and just started plotting things out on there, that helps a bit although I find I like to jump between a couple things so I don't get bored of one thing (300 ribbon roses for example would make me never want to see ribbon again if I did them all at once). Maybe if I just set due dates on everything, and then I can jump between activities if I want, as long as they are done by the due date?
  • They only things I've DIY'd so far was my cake topper and paint an ampersand for our e-shoot 2 months ago. I would love to DIY some more but I can't think of anything that is worth the time and effort. I'm not super creative and I like things being pretty simple. I am currently working on making mustaches to use in our photobooth (they will double as our escort cards). I seem to be much better at getting vendors to slash their prices where it is cheaper for me to pay them to do the work then myself. Good luck all you pro-diyers!!
