Cards at Wedding

I am just wondering what you are all are going to do with your card box full of cards once dinner starts? Do you take it away and if so where do you put it?

Re: Cards at Wedding

  • At our reception they will take the card box and put it on a table behind the sweetheart table so that it is secure.  That is how they do it at most places in NJ i believe.

  • I hadn't even thought about it, but we're the only ones at our venue that day, so I'm not super worried about it. I'll ask one of the ushers to put it away somewhere.
  • Our venue's coordinator will lock it in the bridal room.

We had a family member who had her card box stolen at her wedding during the cake cutting when everyone's back was turned and it ended up being one of the staff.  So we no longer do card boxes.  I had a bag made by someone on etsy that will be large enough to hold any cards we might receive.  It will be given to my mom to hold and if she needs to use the washroom or whatever, she will choose someone she trusts to hold it.  We no longer take chances with big card boxes.

You can definitely ask at your venue if they have anywhere you can lock it up.  Otherwise, honestly, I'd put it on the floor in between you and your FI.  Just make sure you have someone taking care of it the rest of the evening.  You can also ask someone you trust to take the cards periodically and lock them in the trunk of their car if your venue doesn't have a place to lock them.

Some of my relatives have ordered special bags with beading and the works.  Some decorate a canvas shopping bag.  Our wedding is pretty small so I had a smaller one made and I love it!

  • Thats exactly what I was worried about someone stealing it. I am thinking of bring my own little safe there just in case.

Cute bag! I actually saw some cute ones at Party City yesterday, maybe I'll grab one.
  • Ours will be locked up in our bridal suite.  We will take it with us at the end of night.
  • We aren't the only people in the venue that night, but our card table is right by everyone's tables and in direct view point of our sweetheart table so I think we should be fine.

  • Our venue is my parents' rental house so I'm not concerned about random people but I do have a little concern for some staff members because I don't know some of these people personally.

I plan to get my FSIL to empty it regularly and secure the cards in someone's vehicle or in a secret spot in the house.  I don't want to put it out during the ceremony or dinner since everyone will be outside by the water and under the tent.

I will probably have the day-of coordinator set it out during cocktail hour, get my FSIL to do a sweep as everyone's being seated for dinner, and take it up after cocktail hour.  We can put it out again during the dancing for any stragglers or just secure it in a secret place and have the stragglers hand it off to the best man.
  • You ladies are so organized!  I haven't even made a card box yet  :(

We bought ours at Hobby Lobby, lol.  It is a chest similar to this one:

It had a few scratches so we got it for half price.  Not too bad for $10!!
