Wedding Registry?

I know some places won't let you register over a year out but some will. I had thought about going ahead and making one at a few different places to kinda go ahead and get that out of the way.

Have any of you ladies already done this? If not, when do you plan on doing it?

    We're going to do ours somewhere in the 6-10 month out mark. My mother actually works at Bed Bath and Beyond and said that registering too far in advance is sometimes detrimental in the sense that they may no longer carry items that were registered for/prices change/newer versions of things get rotated in/etc. We plan on registering at a few places. However, we really are going to do a big registry through an online registry site because than you can register for anything from any store. We bought a house that needs some work, and we really want to register for home improvement stuff. Lowes (the only home improvement store in our small town) doesn't offer wedding registries, but if we do one online, than we can register for Lowes stuff.

    I think this will be fun!! But I'm going to wait until about 6 months out so that will most likely be before a bridal shower and so on. Also then I can spread the word that we are register at a few places. Also, we are going to register at a travel agency to hopefully save for a honeymoon... Or spread the word we would like money for one. Since we already live together we don't need many items for the house.

    I plan on registering around 6 months out, so for us probably shortly after Christmas, in January sometime. I have seen friends who register too early and half of their registeries are discontinued items that guests may have a hard time finding. I would hold off if you can, or watch your registry very closely and make sure you are updating it as items go discontinued.

    We are registering in October, our family asked us to so that everyone can take advantage of the holiday deals and instead of getting us random gifts for Christmas, they can get us something off of our registry.

    We've already registered, Macy's, William Sonoma, and crate and barrel. We had a lot of ppl wanting to get us engagement gifts over the recent holidays so we just bit the bullet and did it all in one swoop. True, there may be changes in what the stores carry, but we registered at places that notify you if this has happened to any of your items.

    That's a really good point. I hadn't thought about that, but I might drag FI to the stores in the Fall to knock some out. He's moving in a few weeks (hopefully) so we'll have a lot of stuff for our house already, but I'm all for upgrading!
