Cherry blossom wedding venue help - Michigan

My fiance and I are getting married in Michigan in 2014. We want a spring wedding and flowers, cherry blossoms in particular, are a very important theme. I am having trouble finding any venues that specifically have cherry trees that would go with our theme. I realize there are other places more suited to this kind of wedding (like Washington... or Japan...) but if there are any venues out there that even have one cherry tree we could catch in bloom that would be wonderful. We live in the Detroit area but willing to use a venue 2-3 hours away. If cherry trees are an impossible find I'm willing to consider any garden venues with a lot of flowering plants that is well landscaped. Or alternatively someplace we can rent cherry trees or cherry blossom floral arrangements (real or not).  Please help!

Re: Cherry blossom wedding venue help - Michigan

  • I would try the local boards on the left, but Traverse City maybe?
  • I am doing the cherry blossom route as well.  I looked into buying the tree and they were ridiculously expensive for us and our budget.  I have found gorgeous artifical cherry blossom branches from Walmart. $8 each branch. These are our centerpieces rough mockup

I also incorporated cherry blossoms in our invitations and table #'s.  I am from Kalamazoo Michigan and know that there were a couple of garden venue options nearby but sorry I forget the names :/

  • Oh  yes - the cherry trees in MI will bear no fruit this year because of those 80 degree days in March.  Frost came behind and killed the blooms so we lost 90 % of our cherry crop.
  • Reichan1, listen to the posters above regarding Mother Nature. It's true that she rarely allows us to plan around her. Planning your wedding for a specific time of year, hoping the cherry blossoms will be in full bloom is going to be a difficult, almost impossible task.

I have a garden with flowers that religiously bloomed the week of Mother's Day: lilly of the valley, lilac bushes, etc................except for 2 of the past 3 years when it was warmer than normal and they bloomed about 2 weeks early.

You can still plan a wedding in a garden, but I wouldn't plan in your head to have the cherry blossoms blooming. If you want to try to plan something, Traverse City, about 3 hrs from Detroit, is a large cherry producer........except for this year as kmmssg has said. They've lost 90% of the crop. Look in the northern Michigan board for ideas.
