QOTD - 12/12

What is your favorite holiday memory?

Re: QOTD - 12/12

  • Mine is when all of my family, sisters and brother, still lived at home and it would be Christmas Eve.  That is when we would all decorate and put up the tree then Christmas Eve night we would set up blankets and pillows on the floor of one of the bedrooms.  We would watch Christmas movies and stay up late! I was so much fun just all being together like that.  I've would love to do that again someday!  Even though there were 8 of us in one room on the floor it is still my favorite holiday memory!

Either dancing in the nutcracker as a little girl or my grandparents coming over on Christmas morning to see us open our presents. They used to live 5 minutes away and that was always so much fun. I also loved sitting at the top of the stairs with my brother while my parents would get the camcorder ready to tape us coming down the stairs and looking at our presents from Santa.
  • My favorite memory is when my dad gave my mom diamond studs. She'd wanted them for about 25years and they just never had the extra money. My dad was so excited to get them, and went to the store and got them wrapped separately to so that my brother and I could each give her one. The lady at the store thought it was adorable; and then was a bit weirded out when she found out my brother and I were 13 and 18!

Anyway, my dad had me wrap them in two huge boxes so she'd have no idea. She opened the first and started crying, then after she opened the second she just kept saying "These cost more than my new refrigerator!!" over and over, wondering how my dad pulled it off after they'd just remodeled the kitchen.

I loved that Christmas, because it just showed how much my parents love eachother, and how much they always put my brother and I first without spending money on themselves, or eachother.

  • Awww... I love this QOTD! Everyone has such great memories!!!

I am SO many favorite Christmas memories..... my family is huge into Christmas and every year is so, so special.

At my Grandma's Christmas, all the kids are required to do something in the "Kopperud Family Christmas Program." It can be a reading, a song, a dance.... anything! One year, my twin cousins who are a year younger than me, and I made a dance to "Barbie Girl." We have it on video and I die laughing everytime I watch it. It is HILARIOUS! We got my older cousins fiance (now H) to be Ken. I think it was his first family Christmas he had been to. He was super outgoing and so much fun! I think we even put lipstick on him and he just went with it! I have SO many great memories with my twin cousins. :) One is my MOH now and the other is a BM. :)

  • My little sister and I would sneek downstairs to peek at the tree and all the presents at like 3 in the morning. It was so exciting and pretty.  And we felt like spies!

  • Christmas 2004. My dad's sister and her son stayed the night at our house; Christmas Eve into Christmas day. It was her last Christmas and we had a really great time as a family.

  • Mine was when I was 5.  I was living with my aunt and uncle at the time because my dad was doing his post-op care from his brain surgery and my mom was helping him recoup.  They took me over to my grandma's and I got to see both my parents again and my uncle dressed up as Santa came to visit my cousins and I.  Plus I got a parakeet that I let loose and was flying around my grandma'a basement for a while.

  • I think my favorite was actually last Christmas, when I really got into playing Santa for my little brothers and then we had an awesome family day spending time together :)

  • Such fun memories! :)

My favorite would probably be spending time with family friends in Australia 2 years ago! It was our Christmas present from our parents so we went all out, traveling around Australia and visitng some family friends. I will never forget that trip!

I think my favorite holiday memory would have to be my fiance proposing to me on Christmas last year. He put the ring inside of an ornament, and when I saw it, he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I didn't see it coming what so ever, so I was in total shock and really happy :)

  • I was probably 5 and always loved going out to the mailbox to get the mail.  One day near Christmas time my mom said I could go help her get the mail.  When we got outside "Santa" was on my neighbor's roof!  It was so exciting to see Santa watching to see if we were naughty or nice!  I give major credit to whoever dressed up as Santa and went on their roof!

  • Ohh man!  Too many!  Obviously last year when my FI proposed was the best!

Besides that, I used to ice skate in a holiday show.  We would practice for hours upon hours for 3 months and performed one show at the Hartford Civic Center.  The show was free with a ticket and a new unwrapped toy for a child in need.  I was a performer in the show for about 15 years before the show was cancelled a few years ago.  We still have a little floor show for children with disabilities so it still feels great to be part of something so huge and giving back to others (we just had that this past Saturday).

My other favorite memory is when we used to go to my grandparents' house on Christmas Eve.  My cousins and I would turn on the record player to Christmas songs and we would sit on the kitchen counter singing.  One year, we knew it was my grandmother's last Christmas (she suffered from Lou Gehrig's disease) so my uncle flew up from Florida and was supposed to leave Christmas morning.  His flight was cancelled due to snow.  It's a good thing because she died in her sleep that night.  I miss her dearly even though it's been almost 20 years but she's in a much better place and didn't have to suffer anymore. I'm happy we all got to spend her last Christmas by her bed though.
  • I loved reading everyones posts!  A few made me cry...(can we say emotional much?) haha

I'd have to say my most recent favorite memory was when FI proposed the day after Christmas of "09!  I really had NO idea...wasn't expecting it at all because I was just subbing in a few districts and really had nothing lined up and was bummed.  The day after Christmas FI woke up and said he was going to the gym and I was thinking to myself... "Is the gym even open?" But I said ok, have fun, see you later. When he came home he was really weird.  He then told me that I forgot to open up a gift and I'm thinkin...huh???  He pulled out this reindeer box and I opened it...still totally confused.  I saw it, he got on one knee, I have NO idea what he said... something about..I love you, spend the rest of my life with you...blah blah...I was laughing and hysterically crying at the same time.  The first thing I said, after yes, was "You asked my dad, right?"  hahah  Apparently, when he was "going to the gym" he really went to see my dad. My dad knew all along but he wanted to tell him that "today was the day"!!!  So sweet!!

As a kid, I'd have to say it was when my brother and I saved our allowences for like 3 months and my dad brought us to Kmart and we bought our own gifts for everyone that year!  We felt sooo accomplished!  My dad still talks about that to this day!
