  Favors are never necessary. If you have kippos favors for the men, you should have something for the women, too.

  I would not count them as favors, but like PP said, favors are not necessary.  One of my non-Jewish friends did ask if the kippah was a favor, though (I think he asked me during cocktail hour if he had to give it back, and I said he could keep it).  We had jars of blueberry jam as our favors/escort cards.

  I have never been to a jewish wedding in the metro NYC area that had favors, so, no, they are not expected and, yes, while they all had kippot, I don't consider those to be favors.

  Like PPs said, they aren't favors but favors aren't really a Jewish thing (or at least, I never got a favor at a Jewish wedding).

  I've never been to a Jewish wedding with favors either. Personally I think they're silly -- something you give children at a kid's party so they don't left out that they didn't get a gift. Not something an adult needs after a wedding.

  I didn't particularly consider our kippot to be favors.  However, several of our guests (some of them neither Jewish nor male) asked if they could keep them, and we said sure.

  I have never seen favors at a Jewish wedding in Toronto. I have seen donations given on the thank you cards.

  Then we must have never gone to the same weddings.  All weddings I've been to (whether they're Jewish or not) have given some sort of favor.

  I don't recall favors at my cousins' weddings, but I know my parents seem to think that older relatives especially will "expect" something to take home.
