Nice way to incorporate his kids...

I'd like to have FI's 3 kids incorporated into the wedding somehow. His 2 girls will be flower girls....and his son will be ring bearer. I'd also like to have them called up to do something with us together. I know people do sand ceremonies and a unity candle...but I dont think that would be for me. Mentioned the candle to his 7 year old girl and she gave me this look and said "ummm...we cant light a candle! You WANT me to play with fire?? !! " haha so hilarous.

Looking for something unique or different and not the same old same old. Thought about maybe planting a tree in a pot all together..that we can then plant in our yard....but need some more ideas! Somehting with a deeper meaning...and feeling!

Thanks!

That's really special that you're going to do something hands-on that the kids will really be able to associate with "becoming family". I LOVE the planting a family tree idea, but will admit to bias because hubby and I did that for our wedding ceremony. It was so awesome, though -- so many people were really touched by it and had never seen it before.

Here's how ours went: My mom and hubby's mom carried small pails of soil down the aisle and set them on the table where the tree was sitting in a larger pot. Maybe the kids could each carry one of those? The soil came from our respective childhood homes (yes, we made his parents bring dirt from their back yard in Colorado).

During the ceremony, our officiant spoke about what we were going to do before we did it, and after that we went over to the tree and each used a trowel to add "our" dirt to the tree pot. Really more symbolism than anything else. No serious digging around in the dirt. :) We also had a friend of mine playing and singing a song for us during the tree ceremony.

I think having them be FGs/RB is a nice way to incorporate his kids. I think it's really great that you want to honor them, but the ceremony is more about you and your FI.

When my sister married my BIL, his son was about six. After the ceremony, she just pulled him aside and gave him a ring on a chain, and told him that she loves him and she's in a way marrying him, too. We have a pic of this in her wedding album, but it wasn't something that all the guests witnessed. Maybe something like that could be an option.

Yeah I'll have to think about that....I like the idea of doing something in front of everyone...but maybe something smaller and just between all of us would be good too. I love the tree idea...I just know we plan on moving at some point so I wouldn't want to plant it at house we are in now! haha. I'd be too sad to leave the tree! Thanks for your suggestions girls!

Decided I'd really like to incorporate them more....Marriage is about family and they are HIS family...soon to be MY family. I want them to be happy and feel like THEY are a part of their dad and I being together, and not just "oh and you guys too!" Beacause they ARE a huge part of it. HUGE. Everything we do is basically cnetered around them....as it should be in my mind. We are getting married at the arboretum so the tree idea would work well I think!
