Who has done lack of canonical form?

Hi!

I mainly lurk on the nest and the second weddings board. Didn't realize there was a Catholics board, so Hi!

I am curious on those who (or your fi/dh) were granted nullity of marriage by lack of form due to improper marriage by canon law? If so, how long did it take? I am a baptized Lutheran who is divorced from a Catholic so I am aware I qualify for this instead of doing the lengthy annulment. We didn't marry in any church, and especially not the Catholic church. I just haven't been to the church yet as I feel like I am imposing on the parish that I am not a member of but that my SO is. Plus I do not want to burden him with this issue before we get engaged. Although he is well aware of this issue, the matter is actually doing it! I just am afraid that if I wait until I am engaged only to find out it will be a while on top of the 6 month rule for setting a date. Thank you ladies!

p.s., I couldn't find any past posts that mostly spoke of my issue, but rather other things such as annulments. If there is one, please point the way. Thanks!

Lack of forms are pretty easy, inexpensive, and fast. It should be done as soon as possible, do not wait until getting engaged, in case any other issues come up.

I was thinking the same. We have dinner with my step aunt's family and one of them is a former priest so we plan to ask him for help on this issue next week. I'm just afraid of putting the cart ahead of the horse in this situation.

Anyone else, please feel free to chime in. Thank you!

Easy and quick...my fiance had to do it before we got engaged and the whole process took less than 2 months.  Good luck and God bless!
