alternatives to dull chairs?

(forgive the double post! I put this in the reception forum, and then realized it made more senste to put here since we're getting married in chicago!)

Our venue's chairs are basic black banquet chairs that look a little wornout...and remind me of something I might sit in at a conference at a budget hotel. I don't love them, but I think regular chaircovers look a bit silly, and I'm worried they'd distract from our flowers.

Chivari chairs would be great, but we can't stomach the cost. I'm curious if anybody knows a place that rents them for very, very cheap, or if anybody has found a way (or a good company) to cover these types of chairs in a subtle way.

Alternatively, I was thinking about asking our venue if we could use their garden chairs, but I think they might look weird in a carpeted room with a chandelier. We're getting married at a country club.

I am going through the same thing.  The banquet charis are ugly but I dont want to spend hundreds of dollars on chair covers I dont even like.  I was thinking of just putting a sash on the chair??

Just a sash may work, but to be honest, people rarely notice chairs.

I was going back and forth with this for awhile. I hate the chairs at our venue, but the chair covers were going to be way too much and I thought just a sash would look funny. At the end of the day, you're really the only person that will notice the chairs :)

I think that a sash without a cover will just draw more attention to the chairs which is the opposite of what you want. I also think that most people do not notice chairs. If they're covered/decorated they may notice the detail, but if you have plain uncovered banquet chairs then their eye will just look at something else.

I rent out white chair covers for $1.00 each throughout the Chicagoland area. Folding and banquet covers.

We didn't do any chair covers. Although I wasn't crazy about the chairs at our wedding, the colors matched and I agree that no one really notices the chairs. They are focused on the florals, linens, and what is on the table.
I asked myself if I really wanted to spend a lot of money on something that really didn't add any value to our wedding.. the answer was no.
