Thank you notes for gifts before the shower?

Since this is more of an etiquette question I wanted to post here to get your opinions!

We received our first wedding/shower gift in the mail yesterday from FI aunt. My shower is not until July 1st. Should I sent a thank you note now or wait until after the shower?

    Send one now. That way they know you received it and you can open it to ensure nothing is broken.

    Send it now.  Because of what Meegles said AND because it's one less to write after the shower.  I sent thank yous out before the wedding for all gifts received before the wedding and was SO glad to have fewer to do afterwards!

    Thanks ladies! I'll send one now. We did open it but we didn't unwrap everything to check to make sure they werent broken, great tip I hadn't thought of that!
