Gift Registry

Did y'all register for gifts?  I am not really sure what to do about this.  I feel a little strange about it since I have been living in my own home for almost 13 years.

Re: Gift Registry

  • Being that I am 43, and we have our own home, we didn't do the typical registry. We are going to Maui and the Resort we are going to has an awesome website and a honeymoon registry. IF anyone wants to give us a gift, they can contribute to our Honeymoon.
  • Lucy, I feel the same way about experienceing the whole thing since I, too, have waited decades for this.   But, I still feel odd registering for gifts.  Not too much I need.  Home Depot is a good idea, but I fear we would just end up with a bunch of gadgets that my fiance covets but will rarely use.  We still have not decided on when, where, and what for the honeymoon, but hat is a good idea too.

  • Since we've both been married before and now living together, no registery.  And we stated "no gifts". :)

We tried to register.. gave it real honest effort.. but only ended up with 4 things on the list and really don't even need or want any of them lol.  We're getting family to spread the word that we don't need any gifts.. but if someone really wants to give we'd be happy with cash or gift cards.  (we're renovating the kitchen as soon as the wedding is paid off so every little bit will help!) :)

  • I registered us at BB&B and also at Target, to update some things as well as put on some things I really want - like this super cool rolling backpack picnic thingy LOL.

This is my 2nd marriage and his 3rd, but I wanted to give our guests some options.  We will have a card box at the reception also.

  • I'm with you Lucy and mag...this is my first marriage and I want the full experience.  Mr. doesn't want to, but I told him I'd go without him!!!  We haver about 200 guests and I don't want to end up with more crockpots.  Don't get me wrong...I LOVE my crockpots, but I already have 5 (one I use, a spare in the garage, and that one that has 3 in one base that I use for tailgating).  We just bought a house last July so there is plenty of stuff we could use. Plus I LOVE kitchen gadgets!!!  LOL

We are going to register at BB&B and either Target or Macy's, haven't decided which one.  I would love to register at Home Depot or Lowe's, but I didn't think either of them had gift registrys.  I'd better look into it to make sure.

  • we registered, but we sooooooooooo don't need anything.  I know "they" say its tacky to have a honeymoon registry, but I posted our registries on our website, and I put on our honeymoon.  We are going on a cruise, and people can buy us "on board credits" to use while on the trip.  I wasn't really sure how I felt about registering, but hey ... we did it in case anyone asks.

  • We set up a registry on Amazon. We were thinking that people would like clues of what to get us. I looked in to the honeymoon registry thing, but it seems that most companies doing it have fees associated. We aren't planning a big honeymoon trip, anyway.

So we had the registry, but we had nothing in it. So tonight, prior to reading this thread, I thought of some things to add to it. I put some good quality pillows, a down-alternative comforter, and duvet cover. I think higher quality stuff that we will not buy for ourselves any time soon, but that we like, are good candidates.

We have not.  There isn't much we need, besides major home repairs, and we're not going to ask for cash to fund that (although I think there are some ladies on a couple of other boards who intend to do that).  LOL!

If we get any calls inquiring about registry, our planned response is "Your presence is gift enough.  We really don't need anything!"  I'm sure someone will push, and we'll deal with it then ... maybe come up with a handful of things at Williams Sonoma or a store near the venue.  We'll see.

Or maybe we'll just get lucky and someone will give us this:

  • I'm with you Lucy and Weezie--first time bride.  My husband could have cared less about registering, in no small part because he is the least materialistic person in the world and views a plate as a plate.  I'm a china and entertaining junkie and we upgraded his Walmart post divorce white china with some nice white china.  And did the same with a lot of other things.  Although I've owned my own home for 17 years, and live on my own for 27, a lot of the things I own reflect that, so we took the opportunity to upgrade and replace. We also bought a beach house with his sister and brother-in-law last year and registered for that as well.  Let me just say, people love to by fiestaware!

Utlimately, we registered at Belks--where most people bought from, Bed Bath & Beyond--a distant second, Williams-Sonoma--far third, and a local boutique that I  love.  I was reluctant to register at so many places, but BB&B has so many coupons for folks and Williams-Sonoma appeals to the foodies. The local boutique carries the stainless I wanted for the beach house, plus the Beatriz Ball serveware I wanted--and received several pieces of.

Just an additional insight on the serveware.  I had a few pieces  of Towle stainless I had purchased/been given from Tuesday Morning, but without going through the tradition of the wedding, I had never gone out and bought those nice things for myself.  And, I figured folks would want to buy gifts for us, just as I always have wanted to buy gifts for my friends.  I thought it better to register and let them know our preferences.  Hope these insights are helpful.

Let me echo previous posters with the fact that it took several conversations to decide what to do about a registry. FI and I have been together 13 years and recently blended both our homes. Ultimately we decided to register at BB&B and Crate and Barrel. While we both have all the basics, I looked at this as an opportunity to "upgrade" some of the items we have.... Like the ancient blender, etc. This is my first wedding, his second, and everyone is excited for me to have the full experience with showers, etc.... I had read somewhere that people WILL give you gifts.... Make it easy on them and you by providing options.
