Invitation on DVD

We are doing very classy video invitations rather than the traditional sationary invites. Is it tacky to send the video via email? Otherwise we will mail the dvds.

Are you having a formal wedding? Because if you get the formality from the invite, I'm having a hard time imagining anything but casual from a DVD.

I'm sorry, but I think this idea is so weird.

I like the idea of putting a little video clip on a wedding website, AFTER the wedding invitations have gone out, but a dvd for a wedding invitation just seems bizarre.

Agreed with Ghoti. I would assume your wedding is casual if I received a DVD in the mail for your invite. Even more so if you sent it to my email inbox. How are people supposed to RSVP?

I like the idea, but I think they should be mailed. You should put all the necessary info on the DVD cover itself for those who can't use the DVD (grandparents etc).

I think it's very original.

I would mail the DVD, but also have an information slip with your contact information in case your invitee doesn't have a dvd player/computer.

As for the formality, I think that would depend on the video/packaging. You can likely do lots of neat things with the DVD sleeve.

Will people know that it's a wedding invite or will they think it's some kind of junk mail?
Honestly, I barely have time to watch DVDs of my own choosing let alone pop something in of someone else's. I know it would only take a few minutes to watch but it just seems like an awful lot of work for you and a couple of extra steps for the guests. At least with a paper invite, I can hang it on my fridge so it's in my face reminding me that the date is coming up and I need to go shopping for a gift. I'm afraid that it would be a bit "out of sight, out of mind" on a DVD.

MAIL, definitely. Otherwise, what happens if guest forward the email invite to other people or pass along the link? You might end up in a situation where many more people think they are invited than actually are. You also want to include real RSVP cards that get mailed back to you (unless you are doing online RSVPs). The online thing just scares me because random people may think they are invited and that just leads to awkward phone calls later.

thanks for the response, there is phone number to call to RSVP. Or they can send an email response to our wedding email. We are having a cocktail reception and I think having to mail a response is very time consuming.

Ditto. If you're going for speed it takes a lot less time to read a card than pop in a dvd. It actually sounds to me like you're avoiding having to pay postage. You want to email them a video then have them call or email their RSVP. It will probably cost you less in postage to mail normal invites than produce a DVD invite. JMO

I'd mail them out though if you're going to do this.
