NWR.. well, kinda! Gift Idea

Two of my dear friends are marrying each other this coming May. As their wedding gift, FI and I wanted to put together a basket with 12 envelopes, labeled with each of the 12 months of the year. In each of the envelopes will be a date idea, most of which are paid for. Our budget is around $300. I have come up with a bunch of ideas, but was hoping you ladies might be able to help me come up with a few more! I'd rather they be something that does not NEED to be on a specific date (i.e. tickets)

As of now, I have:

- A cooking class (I bought a groupon for this and told them to save the date)
- Gift Certificate to Camden Yards (we live just outside of Baltimore) for an Orioles Game
- Money for admission to the Maryland State Fair
- I was thinking I'd put together a packet of information for a self-guided tour of Baltimore. This one I wouldn't give any money towards, as I'd make it all free things. But it might be nice to explore and learn about the city that we live in!!
- Movie Night In - I'll buy them a DVD, include a bag of microwave popcorn, and include a recipe for dinner
- Gift Certificate to a comedy club for a show
- Bowling Gift Cert
- Train tickets from Baltimore to Washington, DC to go to the Cherry Blossom Festival in March when the trees bloom. Most of the festival is free :)
- Entrance fee for a brewery tour at a local brewery
- and a gift certificate to McCormick & Schmick's for their anniversary dinner - May 2013

This is only 10 ideas, and I'm not sure that they are all great! What are your opinions. the months I still have open are October and December, so I could do something Halloween and Christmas related. Any ideas?

Maybe a gift certificate to go ice skating in December? Especially if there's somewhere outdoors that has pretty lights and all that? And for October...is there a corn maze or pumpkin patch that does hayrides or something fun like that?

That is a really wonderful gift idea! :)

  • Fabulous idea!!

What about a fitness class together? It's a great way to be active and bond.
Something like kick boxing or even yoga. You can get some great intro class deals.

  • I don't really have any other ideas, but I just wanted to say how incredibly thoughtful and creative this gift is :-)

  • This is an awesome gift idea!!  Maybe a gift certificate to a theater that shows the nutcracker in December or a GC to a nice restuarant.  I like the pumpkin patch/corn maze idea too...Or a haunted house, if they like that sort of thing.

Just because you saw it on Four Weddings, doesn't mean it's a good idea.
  • I think this is such a great idea!!

Some of my favorite things in BMore you've hit already, but I also love the aquarium (which ispricey so maybe not?) The american visionary art museum- they have a lot of events idk about halloween or Christmas specifically but  its a fun place and in the summer they do "drive-in movies" they play a movie on the wall and you brign your blanket and picnic, you could get them a blanket or soethign picnicy and a gift cert to do that? Also:Ghost tour for halloween?  I've done one in (fells point where my brother lives) it was pretty fun!

  • THIS IS THE BEST IDEA I'VE HEARD!  So thoughtful!  The only thing I can think of is my FIL and FI's friends are all from VA and have all done the dinner cruise from Baltimore and had a blast.  I *think* it may be on the pricey side once you factor in all your other gifts for your budget but definitely check it out.

<div>This. I actually teared up a little thinking about receiving a gift like this. =)</div>
  • I LOVE this! Are there any fesitvles in your city that you could think of or mayve like a pp said, corn maze or iceskating.

  • What an amazing friend you are!  I love the train tickets and the brewery tour.  What about something like a couples massage?  I really like the ice skating idea for December, or if there's a Christmas light festival in your town, tickets for that.  For October, you could do like a pumpkin carving kit, some apple cider mix and maybe s'mores.  Not sure how that would all hold up though.

  • This is such an awesome gift!  You and your FI are such thoughtful friends.

I know around my area we have a place that gets all decked out for Christmas with lights and you can spend a whole night just walking around there, get a hot chocolate and take in all the pretty lights.  If there were something like that in your area, that might be nice for December's date.

I love the corn maze idea for October too.  I've always wanted to go to one of those myself but by the time I remember them they've all turned into haunted corn mazes and I'm not into that.

  • Well hello semi-neighbor! Wink

Boordy Vineyard (and I assume some other places) have evening wine tastings that are also outdoor concerts. I think that would be a great gift.

Personally, I found the Visionary Arts Museum disappointing considering how much it costs. The aquarium is also quite expensive but totally worth it.

I've never been but maybe a gift certificate to Ladew Gardens for around Christmas? I think they decorate the place really nicely.

  • Wow! Thanks guys! Feel free to see the idea!!

Thanks for the ideas - I think I'm going to put a pumpkin carving kit & apple cider mix in the envelope and then put info for a pumpkin patch for October.

Then, I really like the idea of a fitness class, as that seems really "them". I'm def going to have to look into that for December. Otherwise, I'll go with ice skating.

Thank you so much for the ideas!!!

  • This is a great idea! I have seen it on Pinterest and thought it was awesome.  I would check on the gift cards and make sure they won't expire or have fees by the time they use them!

  • For October, what about a ghost tour of Baltimore?  I don't know if your city does that, but mine does!

Also, I think you are an amazing friend!  This is the sweetest idea ever!  I would be so honored to get this!
