Ceremony music

What songs did you ladies use for your processional/recessional?

I wanted to walk down the aisle to Mama's Song by Carrie Underwood, but it makes me cry every single time I hear it! And I figure I'll already be pretty emotional that day.

I know this would probably be better on the Ceremony board, but I feel like I know you ladies best, so I hope no one minds. :-)

Re: Ceremony music

  • I walked down to A river Flows Within you- by yiramu, it's the original of bellas lullaby from twilight. :) If it helps, I was crying by the time I got to the end of the isle.

The bridal party walked out to Vitamin String Quartet's version of Aerosmith's "I don't want to miss a thing." I went traditional for my walk down the aisle, also choosing the song my mom walked to, and went with Pacabel's Cannon in D. Our recessional was Vitamin String Quartet's version of "All you need is love," by the Beatles.

If you're unfamiliar with Vitamin String Quartet I suggest checking them out. As you can probably guess, they take modern songs and set them to string music. You can hear samples of their songs here:

ETA: For fun, since we're talking about music selections, let's add in our other song choices.

    At the reception -
Bridal party entrance: Party Rock Anthem, by LMFAO
Our entrance: A song from one of the Rocky movies (not Eye of the Tiger)
First Dance: You are the best thing, by Ray LaMontagne
Father/Bride dance: Father Daughter, by Paul Simon
Mother/Groom dance: You are the sunshine of my life, by Stevie Wonder.

  • I walked down to Clair De Lune by Debussy, to pay homage to my father.

Funny story, we used an Ipod player and H had downloaded all the wedding music to his player. I found out later he had handed the remote to the reverend and he hit the wrong button and it started playing Buck Cherry's Crazy Biotch.

  • Our WP included our 4 children (teenagers at the time).  My DD2 played her violin along with our friend on piano and her friend on flute.  Together they made their own arrangement of Pachelbel Canon in D for both the processional and recessional.  It's a really versatile piece so they could choose the best parts and make it as long or short as needed.

I LOVE You Are The Best Thing, by Ray LaMontagne and Sweet Pea by Amos Lee!

Edie, I adore Benny and Joon and I love that John Hiatt song!

    So far we have:
    Processional: Boat Song, Jj Heller
Bride entrance: undecided. Thinking of asking my cousin to play When I'm With You by Jj Heller on acoustic guitar for this
Recessional: Good Time, Latch Key Kid

Wedding party will come in in the pairs they walked down the aisle in and each have a song we picked to fit their personalities/couple-ness

B&G entrance: Power of Love (Back to the Future song)

First dance- Constellations, Jack Johnson and Still the One by The Orleans (I'm making FI do a swing dance with me. He surprised me with lessons a few years ago then never danced with me at our friends wedding. This is him owing me, haha)

  • I walked down the aisle to the Dave Matthews cover of the Beatles song "In My Life".  It was instrumental only.  I cannot remember what we walked out to at the end.

  • Seating of mothers:  Beatles "In My Life"
Bridal Party: Beatles "Here Comes the Sun"
    Bride: Somewhere OVer the Rainbow
Recessional:  Beatles "All You Need is Love"
First Dance:  One Republic "It's Going to be a Good Life"
Father/Daughter dance:  Sweet Child of Mine
  • So, we are going a (very) different route.  Our wedding is full of subtle inserts of our personalities.  The music however, is anything but subtle.  We'll be dancing the night away.  PS.  Our Dj was fully on board with everything and said he was excited to play something different for a change.  He may just be stroking our egos, but I loved hearing it.  I'm just excited to see our guests faces as they hear the song choices.

Guests seating: John Williams theme songs from Jurassic Park, Indiana Jones, Harry Potter, Star Wars Etc.
Wedding Party: Changes by Seu Jorge from the movie Life Aquatic
Me down the aisle: Sea of Love by Cat Power from the movie Juno
Recessional: Everybody needs somebody to love by the Blues Brothers from the movie
Reception Intro of Bridal Party: Me and Julio down by the school yard from the movie Royal Tennenbaums
Reception Intro of Bride and Groom: Jump in the Line by Harry Belefonte from the movie Beetlejuice
First dance as husband and wife: As Time Goes By by Dooley Wilson from the movie Casablanca
Father/Daughter: Edelweise by Cristopher Plummer from the movie Sound of Music
Mother/Son: You Never Can Tell by Chuck Berry from the movie Pulp Fiction
Garter Toss: Tequila from Pee Wee's big adventure
Bouquet Toss: Good Enough by Cyndi Lauper from the movie The Goonies
Last song of the night: Don't Stop Me Now by Queen from the movie Shaun of the Dead

    I'm sensing a theme here...Yeah, we're movie junkies
