Wedding dress shopping - Store suggestions?

I have family coming up in a couple weeks and they want to go dress shopping (eck!). I have a small dress budget - ideally, I would like to spend less then 750 including alterations, etc. Does anyone have any suggestions of where to shop?

Ideally, I would love suggestions that 1) provide the whole shopping experience for the family (aka, no running of the brides just yet!) 2) would have gowns in that price range and not make me feel stupid for not spending more 3) in DC proper (although that is the least important.) THANKS!

Yay I Do I Do! That's where I got my dress and so have several of my friends. Great selection and prices! I got my dress there for $750 and it didn't need any alterations at all =)

  • Thanks ladies. I will definitely check out  I Do I Do. It sounds great!

I am also open to used dresses if anyone has any recommendations of places to go.

    Thanks again!!
  • Rosalin's Bridal in Falls Church has great prices and they are so wonderful to work with. They carry mosty Maggie Sottero gowns, but the gowns are all new and Rosalin's had the best prices of all the salons I went to. I wound up finding my dress at Priscilla of Boston while they were clearing out the inventory, but I loved my experience at Rosalin's so much, I went back to order bridesmaid dresses.
  • I've heard really good things about - Terri Lynn Bridal in Bethesda

  • I went to the Alfred Angelo store in Springfield, VA.  Their staff were awesome but I've only read bad reviews about their alterations.  I would wait until they have a sale before going there.  Their current sale is $100 off dresses that are $600 to $999, but it ends February 4.

The dress I chose was originally $1000 but I got it for $800 including tax because it was on sale.  I think $1000 is about mid range for them so they sell some cheaper dresses.  Mine has a corset back so the only alterations I will need are a hem and a bustle.

My sister had a good experience with Davids Bridal in Gaithersburg, and she got her dress for $600.  She had a problem with the zipper though, so if you go there make sure you inspect your dress well before signing and taking it home.

  • I got my dress at Blush in Gainesville. They have a great selection of gowns in your price point. I also like LaBella Bridal.
