Makeup artist question

I had to change my wedding date and lost a bridesmaid. I had already signed a contract with makeup/hair artist before this happened. She refuses to deduct the charges for one less bridesmaid because her contract says services can only be added not deducted. I'm okay with it as long as we can count the nonrefundable deductibles as gratuity. So is it okay for me not to tip her extra??

</div><div>I think that was harsh what the MUA says. I personally am a bridal makeup artist and I understand things like this happen, its not as if your canceling her services or adding more people, plus you have given her a heads up. </div><div>Now how much are her rates? This should determine if a gratuity is needed, and between us not all brides tip! So she's probably used to not being tipped. What I would do is wait till the day of your wedding to decide if you want to give her a tip, if her services are amazing and she made you feel beautiful and went above and beyond to make the day perfect then give her a small tip but add the lost girl into that small tip as well. An example of above and beyond is a touch up kit. I give all my brides as a small gift their lip color to touch up through out the day, as well as some blot tissues, mints, and some Fix+ spray. </div><div>Also try to find a friend thats not in your bridal party or one of the moms like yours or the grooms if they were not yet included... get that extra face in their, after all your paying for it.

  • Does your mua have minimums? Like for my hair/makeup artist - I have someone coming on-location and they have a minimum number of services that have to rendered at that time for the on-location stuff.  If i fell below that I would still be expected to pay the minimum amount for services regardless if they were actually done.  With that said - your artist held your date for you with the expectantcy of x amount of people for x amount of money.  Now that has changed- if it were me - I would tip on the full amount.

  • Can your MUA do your mom or MIL's makeup instead?  My sister wanted to do her own makeup but my MUA had a minimum so I had her do my mom's instead.

But in answer to your question--I probably would be less inclined to tip on the full amount since you are paying for a service you didn't receive.  Etiquette most likely says you should tip on the full amount, however, I know I wouldn't.  I would only tip on the amount I would have been charged for the services actually performed.
  • I will be paying extra 70 due to absence of the bridesmaid. I think this is a lot to pay for services I don't receive. He has three people minimum which I still meet even without the absent bridesmaid. I dont know how much other people tip usually but think getting extra 70 is pretty hefty.
