Snarky Brides

Oh my goodness...

http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-504083_162-20018766-504083.html?tag=cbsnewsSectionContent.6

This  woman met a man through a "dating service", went to a motel with him, began drinking and then woke up to find the word "hoe" carved into her chest.

Um, I think it's sad what happened to her and I don't think she deserved it.  But maybe meeting a guy online, going to a motel room and getting drunk isn't the safest situation to put yourself in, KWIM?

Re: Oh my goodness...

  • She didn't notice? Really?

  • I'm raising my eyebrow right now. Manually, because that's the only way I can.

  • Well, it didn't say if she was drugged or not, but it sounds like she wasn't. So yeah, I have to wonder how meeting a guy online, going to a motel and getting so wasted you pass out into a sleep so deep you don't notice someone carving up your chest with a box cutter seems like a good idea.
  • Geez.  People are such idiots.  The last paragraph is the best line in the whole story (quoting the manager of the motel): Clawson told KHSB that no one in the nearly full motel called to complain about a disturbance, but at a motel where rooms are less than $30 a night, who does?

  • You have to be extremely inebriated to not feel something like this. And the whole story is just suspect.

So what you're saying is that I should rethink my weekend plans...?

Yeah really. I always make sure that when I'm gonna go to a motel with a guy I met online, that I get the $50 and up rooms. That's the only way to ensure your saftey.

Just don't leave a box-cutter close to where you plan to pass out for the night.

Probably. Although, you can step up the class and have someone carve "High end escort" instead of "hoe". That'll make all the difference in the world.
  • The whole story is weird and seems off. If you're not drugged, how would you not feel your chest being sliced open? If he left, how did he get back in? If they were fighting, why did she stay instead of just go home? I have so many questions.

If it's real, then I feel sorry for her to have to live with that. At least it wasn't on her face, which I have read a story about that was true.
  • So wait, let me get this straight: She was groggy enough to not attempt to call the police, hotel management, or even scream for help when some random guy she never met was pacing in her room in the middle of the night, but not groggy enough to notice and remember the box cutter somewhere in her room?  Yup, I totally believe it.

And betrothed, I'm disgusted with most of the comments that you have posted. I don't think I've ever read such judgmental comments in my life. I'm so lucky that the girls I speak to on theknot are nothing like you...I would've never come on here for ADVICE if I would've encountered a big a bitch as you. I genuinely feel awful for your children or your future children, and I think it would be irresponsible of YOU not to invest in their future therapy sessions starting now. Because trust me when I tell you honey, they're gonna need it. ~jcaruncho2010

I think the article said he left with the key. But I agree. After meeting up with a stranger and getting into and argument, why would you stay there?
  • My cousin met her husband online. They only spoke for a month and he moved to texas and moved in with her and her parents. She got pregnant and they got married. Now they are possibly getting a divorce and she came to find a few year into their marriage that he had previously had another child with someone else that just so happend to live nearby. Coincidence? Did he meet her to use her for some place to live so he would be close to his daughter? I'm not sure, but I think it is very hard to trust these online dating sites.

That situation totally sucks but I don't think you can say all dating sites are untrustworthy (thought I know you didn't say all).  I think a lot of it has to do with the person using the site.  I met my FI online, but there were SEVERAL creeptastic guys that messaged me that I would have never considered replying back to, let alone meet.  If someone is on a site to meet up and go to a $30 a night motel, obviously their intentions are not the best...  But maybe that makes me a prude?

Met my FI online, too.  A lot of it is common sense.  You knew those guys were creeptastic, so you avoided them.  Go with your gut works!  I also have access to a database (you can buy a subscription) to check criminal records.  I ran a few guys through that, too.

Ha. I bet the newstory fails to mention that the word "Hoe" was spelled backwards because the woman attempted to do it while looking in the mirror.
