Soldering rings

I'm thinking about getting my rings soldered together, but not sure if it's a good idea.  How many of you ladies have your rings soldered and do you like it?  Thanks :)

Re: Soldering rings

  • I don't have them soldered right now but I'm planning on it. I want to do it so that they stay in the place that i want them to, if that makes sense.

  • I had mine done right after the wedding and am SO glad that I did.  The diamonds on the bands don't go all the way around, so I wanted to make sure that they always lined up.  Plus I knew that I was always going to want to wear them together, so it was an easy decision.
The only thing to be aware of is that once you get them soldered together, they fit a bit smaller (think like a half size smaller).  So, talk to the jeweler about that and you may need to change the size a bit at the same time.
  • I kept mine separate. For one thing, even now (in winter, when your fingers are less likely to be swollen) I don't have a problem with them twisting or not lining up right. Other than that, I like the option of wearing them separately even if I don't plan to right now. For example, I don't know if I will have any future jobs where I want to have the ability to just wear the band without the big diamond. If you're unsure, you might want to wait until after the wedding and see how they fit separately (if they're twisting and bothering you, etc.)
  • I am soldering mine before the wedding. I have two bands, and just feel more comfortable having them all sodlered together as one ring.

  • After 2 years, I had mine done.  They do indeed fit more snugly  now.  Mine kept twisting in different directions and I was noticing that the prongs of my wedding band were wearing down the prongs for my e-ring.  To prevent further damage, I opted to have it done.  I originally thought I might wear my rings separately but in the 2 years since our wedding, I didn't ever do that so I figured it was time.
  • I'm not getting it done. I actually don't know anyone who's ever done this. Personally, since we travel a lot, I'm planning to only wear my band in places where wearing an engagement ring may seem flashy.
  • I am getting my soldered before the wedding. My band has two little notches in the side of it that are supposed to fit right up on the e-ring and if they aren't soldered together it just doesn't look right.
  • I had mine soldered.  I wasn't going to at first, because I thought I might want the option to wear just my wedding band by itself, but in the end decided to solder them so that the diamonds on each band would line up correctly.  My jeweler also recommended it because I have diamonds on the sides of both rings and she said that if they weren't soldered, the diamonds would rub against each other and they could get chipped.

  • I had mine soldered shortly after the wedding. If they were a style where I had the option of wearing just the band on it's own I would've kept them separate. But my e-ring is kind of a different setting, and the band is made to go around it, so it's not really something that I could wear without the e-ring.

  • I'm not having my soldered together because I travel internationally for work and really wouldn't be comfortable wearing my engagement ring to some of the locations but still want to wear my wedding band.  If not for the travel, I probably would get the soldered, though.
