Ok this might be a stupid question but...

What the heck is a "first look"? I see a lot of people talk about it but I have no idea what that is! Lol

Re: Ok this might be a stupid question but...

  • It is where instead of waiting to first see each other as the bride is walking down the aisle, the bride and groom see each other before the ceremony.  Typically it's alone (maybe with the photog from afar to capture the moment).  The big advantages of it is: 1) you can get a lot of the photos which usually take almost an hr done before the wedding and allow you to get to the cocktail hour/see your guests early, 2) You will look more fresh with your hair and makeup in those pics, 3) you get a little bit of alone time with your groom, which everywhere I've heard is surprisingly difficult during the wedding day, 4) for us, it means having a little bit later ceremony time before the sunsets.

We haven' 100% decided, but I'm all for it!  It's a personal decision.

  • Interesting. I don't know that I'd want to do it but to each their own! :)

  • Ditto to what lwoehlk said.

For us, a first look is essential.  Our ceremony isn't unti 6m and it'll be dark after the ceremony. If we didn't do a first look, we wouldn't be able to take many pictures of FI and I at all.  Our ceremony and reception are at the same venue, so we would only have 1 hour to take pictures in the dark!  Pictures are very important to us so a first look was an absolute must.

  • First look for us is a must. Fi didn't really want to but I explained how since were NOT having cocktail hour there won't be anything for the guests to do while were off taking pictures! So he got it and we're having it. Our ceremony and reception are in two locations. I'm waiting to hear back from my photographer who is on vacation but I think we will all be getting ready at the reception venue and taking pictures with the WP there first. Then heading out for the ceremony to the Church and afterwards doing some quick family shots and shots with the pastor etc. 20 mins TOPS. Then heading back for the reception. The only thing I find wrong with this situation is flowers. They're being delivered to the Church. I guess we could have someone pick them up and bring them over but what if they wilt before the ceremony!? Would it be ok to have NO flowers in the majority of our beforehand pics?
