Old movies?

What is your favorite old/classic movie?  I've been watching a lot for inspirations and I'm using old romance movies for my table "numbers"

Re: Old movies?

  • Casablanca is a given but thanks to Netflix we are working our way through Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers movies right now. We watched Shall We Dance and Top Hat and next up is The Gay Divorcee. Meet Me in St Louis is one of my favorites.

  • Since my wedding 1940s each table is a movie from each year - casablanca is 1942 and etc... The escort cards are movie teickets.

  • Some of my favorites:
Casablanca, Some Like it Hot (1959), How to Marry a Millionaire (1953), Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961), Sabrina (1954), His Girl Friday (1940), Gone with the Wind (1939), Arsenic and Old Lace (1950), Tammy and the Bachelor (1957), Sex and the Single Girl (1964), and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953)

I left out the musicals and the horror films, stuck to the more girly, romantic movies.

I think it's a close tie between some like it Hot and Breakfast at Tiffany's for my very favorite.

  • Kelly, that was our idea too!! Then to have vintage frames with screen caps from the movie and/or the actors/acresses from the movie around the centerpiece. Roman Holiday is also a good one!

  • My favorite classics are Some Like it Hot, Meet Me in St Louis, and Calamity Jane. Shirley Temple and Mae West are always sure to please as well. I also love period dramas-- anything BBC or from Masterpiece is an instant love for me, but my favorites are Pride & Prejudice & Anne of Green Gables.

  • For my wedding in 2 days, we are projecting Top hat (my favorite movie of all time) and Shall we Dance on the wall the entire reception time.  Its a silent and 1930s movie theme, so Ill send pics! :)
  • Cat on a Hot Tin Roof or Streetcar Named Desire might be good for guests who might be into fashion, lit, or history--and not know their table mates because there's a few interests tied in there that might help them connect.

I love the silent movie idea listed above.  How awesome and cute to match!
